Myopia

I have had Myopia since I was 13 and have been wearing glasses ever since. A couple of years or so ago my prescription went to -2.25 in the left and -1.75 in the right. I am 23 so I thought it would stay at that and indeed my last eye exam was the same. However I found out last week that both eyes had deteriorated by another .75. I'm a bit worried by this to be honest as at that rate it wouldn't take long to reach -6 and then there are all sorts of problems.

Does anyone have experience of such a dramatic change?

What kind of problems? I'm - 8.25 in both eyes and though it's a pain the only real problem is that first morning fumble around for my glasses on the bedside locker. Once your eyesight is correctable with lenses then I wouldn't say it causes problems per se... it's just a nuisance.

Can I ask what age you are? Have you been using computers more than usual in the past couple of years? I did have a fairly rapid decline in my late twenties when I started using computers a lot more but then I was probably at -6 anyway. Strangely now at age 37 my eyesight has actually improved by .75 in the past year! Whoohoo!

At a guess (i.e. I'm not an optician) I would say that if you have got to your twenties with eyesight at -3 (ish) I would say it's unlikely that you're going to get that much worse so stop panicking!

You do have me intrigued (and now paranoid) about these probalems you mentioned and I'm now wondering what you know that I don't.... there lies the power of the internet

Sorry littlebug, not trying to start a sweep of internet hypochondria. I just read there are certain eye problems that someone with a stronger prescription can be more prone to. But since I just read it on wikipedia it's probably not the most reliable info.
