    Hi All,

    Is the following possible:

Somebody is sending my fiances 14 year old female cousin txts from my phone number. i've met the girl twice and dont even have her phone number but it turns out she has being txting who she thought was me and i have even being txting her back, which i havent - ive had no knowledge of this until the gardai phoned me on Saturday night and warned me to stop.

my fiance was in her house today and saw txts from my number. the txts are very obscene and a few have been frightening for the poor girl.

before anyone says it no, im not txting her!

does anyone know of this happening to anyone or know if its even possible....

    thanks for the help,

Probably the wrong forum -- Mobiles & PDAs might be more appropriate.

The only thing that I can think this might be is SIM cloning. Where your SIM card was cloned. From my limited understanding, anybody can copy your SIM card exactly and use your number to make phone calls or send text messages - making you unaware. Basically, the same that is happening here. Your SIM may have been cloned, and then the copied version is being used to text the other person something your unaware of.

I didnt think the guards would make a phone call over this, are you sure its legimate? Id imagine the guards would call up and speak to you, a lot more seriously then a "warning". I would bring this matter up with the guards and your network provider (o2, vodafone etc).

Maybe someone can expand in more detail, or even correct me if im wrong. Interesting case.

    Hi Sully,

    Thanks for replying.

i was in with the guards this evening and he said theres nothing much he could do. he can trace the calls but it will only show who was txting the numbers and he didnt seem too interested in even doing that!

he phoned the guard who phoned me and was talking to her on my behalf so am just waiting to hear back from her now. im going into meteor first thing tomorrow and hopefully will get some answers there....

Could also be from your service provider's free web text facility. i.e. someone logging in with your username (mobile number) and password (normally sms'ed to your phone). Either you have registered in the past and they have found out your password, or someone has registered for you. If the latter someone will have had to get access to your phone to retrieve the password.

Ya either way, it shouldnt been just ignored. Its a serious issue. As your with Meteor, I do believe their customer support isnt the best. Id suggest also getting the girls parent to call her provider and ask that an investigation be done so the person is traced and stopped. (Could ask the same with the guard, if he isnt best pleased, go above his head).

If it is SIM cloning then only one phone can be on the network at the same time, if you get kicked off a lot or loose signal it maybe.

If this does happen ring your voicemail as soon as it happens (put a 5 after the 08X to ring straight to voicemail eg. Is your number is 085-666-777 ring 085-5-666-777) and leave a message, this is so you have a log of the time in sync with Meteors system (e.g. you watch maybe 1-5 min fast or slow, but the Voicemail will log the time and that “should” be the same on all meteors servers). Then call Meteor and get then to check which tower or base station run number is registered on and see if it is anywhere near where you are.

But it sounds more likely that it somebody using Meteor webpage to send messages, prob use the default pass or got it from a using it in a net-café or while using wifi (free or connected to a unsecured one) get Meteor to check the IP address that have logged into there server with your user/pass and compare the time of the messages received (also note that message can to set to delivery at a future time….)

From my less than extensive reading on the subject of sim cloning I thought that if two phones were on the network at the same time they'd lock out the number. Also I believe they'd need access to your phone to do it and it's not very easy so not any joe soap could do it.

The web text thing would be a lot more probably except that the sender wouldn't have been getting her replies, you would, so if the two of them were actually conversing then that couldn't wholly explain it.

    It's all very very strange.

You can with some web based carriers send txt messages and you can enter any phone number you want.
