Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has used an Octo LNB on their Sky dish.
One installation company has told me they don't use them as the extra weight on the end of the dish causes problems. They recommend I get a multi switch (what hotels and apt. blocks use) - sounds big and expensive !!!!

    All experiances or recommendations welcome!

I would recommend you upgrade to an 80cm dish with an octo, much cheaper than a multiswitch

I suppose it depends on which Multiswitch and which Octo, Some Multiswitches are cheaper than some octos and then you can have up to 8 PVRs / 16 tuners and up to 4 satellites. Multiswitch does need Quad or Quattro for 1st LNB and Quattros for 2nd, 3rd & 4th LNBs

Of course if you only have a regular single LNB rather than a Quad, then an Octo is cheaper and simpler.

I have an octo on my sky dish since may 06 and never had any trouble with it. I actually find it better then the quad lnb it replaced!!!

We use an Octo LNB on our Sky Dish and have done since Jan 2007 with no problems at all. Running a HD, Sky+ & Digibox off it.

hey new to sat tv, is it right to say that an Octo LNB splits the signal into 8 lines which you need 8 receivers to decode the signal,. Would you be able then to watch different channels at the same time, if so would a quad LNB not suit as it would be chaeper... who need 8 lines?.... or is that post a load of @$%&#....

    You are correct.

In terms of who needs and Octo you should remember that a quad would only support two Sky+ boxes. I had an octo installed by a local installer here in Wexford last August (06) and it allowed me to run two Sky + boxes and 3 other TV's (2 bedroom's & the kids playroom, where I use UK FTA cards). I also have the kitchen wired but unused.

To date the only problem I've ever had is occasionally with Setanta during premiership matches (not during rugby or golf strangely) but looking at the forum this is apparently because my dish needs to be slightly adjusted.

    Hope this helps.
