Does anyone know what happened to the actorTom Murphy?
He died yesterday, we heard it at the Gate Theatre and there hasn't been much about it on the news at all which is strange as he was such a fantastic actor. He was only 37. He was in Adam and Paul, Man about Dog, Trouble in Paradise, and on stge saw him in Shining City, Henry V and loads of other stuff.

A quick google didn't say anything other than the fact that he had died, which is weird!! Thats sad though, he was a deadly actor! I wonder why there isn't a bigger deal about it!!

    RIP Tom Murphy

Flicking through the text on RTE last night I noticed a story saying Actor Tom Murphy had died. Now I like his work and loved Pure Mule , Adam and Paul, and Man About Dog. I immediately checked boards for news and saw nothing and have been checking all day. Am I missing something? I say this because I found this website by looking for info about Tom and found a link saying he is an Admin on boards which first brought me here.
    The story is at

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/1006/murphyt.html

and imdb confirms that the same actor won the Tony award for The Beauty Queen of Leenane here - see trivia link

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0614755/

Can somebody explain. I hope this is not true.

Seemingly he was only diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. Mentions it on the playbill website.

    Very, very sad.

Unfortunately it is true. Tom Murphy got diagnosed with cancer about 4 months ago and got sick very quickly. He died on saturday evening in the mater hospital with his loving family. To make this situation that more upsetting is that Toms father only passed away 5 weeks ago. Tom was only 39 years of age. Far to young to leave this earth !!

May both Tom and his father rest in peace !

A couple of google results quote a friend of his who says that it was a quick-spreading lymphatic cancer.

I had no idea he died, so sad. He was a rare breed of actor, the viewer always had an empathy for the characters he played.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)
