Can anyone recommend somewhere for a golfing weekend break within an hour of Dublin.

Somewhere that isn't very expensive (maybe one of the hidden gems) with a good value nearby hotel or cottage.

Depends what you consider expensive really. And how many are going.
One idea might be renting one of the holiday homes in Mount Wolsely in Tullow. You can check rates and availability at www.dreamireland.ie .
Resident rates in Mount Wolsely are reasonable for a quality course and within a few minutes drive you have Killerig and Kilkea castle. I haven't played Kilkea but Killerig is a decent enough course (although they were doing some work on it when I was there during the summer, 4th or 5th was closed and one of the par 3s was playing short off a temporary tee box.

The houses in Mt.Wolsely are lovely and spacious and sleep 6 comfortably. There's also a pool and playground for the kids and a spa for the significant others.

Thanks for the replies......somebody mentioned Mount Wolseley a couple of days ago so I'll check it out and also look at Kilkea.

I went for a weekend to Waterford about 2 years ago (it's about 2 hrs as opposed to 1hr)

We played Faithlegg and Waterford Castle, both really nice courses and neither we're too expensive (sorry I can't remember the prices). Faithlegg house is a nice Hotel also, nice clubhouse, gym and pool, snooker room etc.

if looking at faithlegg and waterford castle, throw in mount juliet and there is a 3 club pass deal for 175 midweek:

    or 75 without mt juliet.
