On a not-so-related note, I never received any mail about the optional language modules. Does this mean I didn't get in?

Relax about the reading list - it is up to an individual lecturer, normally, how they deal with this, so you'll find out at the first lecture for each subject/module you're taking. Not all of them will assign mandatory textbooks, there are loads of different approaches, so the best thing to do is 'wait and see' - in the vast majority of TCD courses, there's no single centralised booklist so don't worry.
