    Hello,

Im sick of not recieving/ recieving late and not being able to send certain email attachments via eircom. I just want a reliable email program that i can use via Outlook express as i dont like browser based ones.

I dont mind paying so whats my best option for reliability, getting a domain name to get my own email seems like a lot of hassle, is there any companies that provide you with an email for a monthly/yearly fee that can be used with Outlook express?

I know you said you didnt want to but I really think the best thing to do is if your going to pay for an email address is do as you say and setup a domain name.

It's actually very straight forward and takes about 5 minutes from start to finish to register the domain and setup in microsoft outlook. I've one with Go Daddy and I've a 50MB mailbox (so would cover most large attachments) and that costs just €6 odd a year including the domain name

I'm pretty sure all email addresses can be used with outlook.

If you want something easy to set up, just sign up for a gmail account and download thunderbird (an alternative to outlook). Thunderbird has all the settings for gmail already all you have to do is put in your email address
    and password and that's it.

Personally I go for gmail which is pretty much the best of web mails and also lets you enable Pop. Now add Thunderbird 2.0 email client which has a template for creating gmail accounts and you can be setup and working in no time (So you only need know your userid and password and not server names and port numbers etc).

So mail is on your computer as you'd expect but if in work and someone sends you a mail you still have access via the web. Sweet. :-)

Most domain name email programs have a web interface aswell but i had problems sending to gmail accounts before, maybe it was possibly on my end but it sent an came back saying attachments rejected etc

I suppose the domain email is the way to go

    Get Gmail, for five reasons:
    1. It has a great spam filter that's free. Better than the one you pay €2 a month to Eircom.
    2. 2GB's of storage. Lets see you go through that quickly.
    3. Works with Outlook, and Outlook Express. It even has a tool that will do all the settings for you, or if you prefer, a page with step-by-step instructions.
    4. It's free.
    5. It can take in other email accounts, such as Eircom. By this, I mean that you have one main Gmail account, to which you connected to your Outlook Express. Gmail will then get the mail from your Eircom address, filter out the spam, and give all the email to you. You can then send and recieve your email through your Eircom account, and sent large emails from your Gmail account.

As for the attachments rejected, what filetypes were they? exe jpg zip or what? I ask as some may be blocked on the receivers end.

I have seen gmail block certain attachments. I don't think it likes .exe files and possibly others. There are obvious reasons for this. I found that zipping these types of attachments works.

Renaming the extension would work also.

DVDFAN you can use outlook with Eircom, dont know why people would use the web based version. I offer web based email with my hosting accounts but suggest to people to use outlook to download their emails(this doesnt touch your online quota then). So if someone sells you an email package, as someone says they have, 50megs, then if you download these using outlook, that 50megs doesnt come into effect, its only there if you only use the web based email.

to use eircoms servers in outlook, their incoming and outgoing mail servers are mail2.eircom.net (or mail1.eircom.net) for both (one is for subscriptions customers mail1 and mail2 is for free customers but both will work), then just use your login credentials that you're already using, store these so you dont have to keep typing them in, and you're inbox is as big as your hard drive.

Gmails 2gig allowance, depending on what you get, id be well over their limit at this stage, 8 outlook accounts touching 11gigs (i have no choice but to keep emails unfortunetly). the daily backups take a bit of time alright.

No it doesn't. Gmails crapfilter looks at the file headers and renaming an exe won't change those. But you can zip it and send it.

I could have sworn that worked for me before.
