external hard drive problem

bit like hanzas problem in his post , have a maxtor 3200 400gb plug and play external drive , it has suddenly stopped working ,when i plug it in ,the pc acknowledges a device etc but then says the usb device has malfunctioned and device manager says no drivers installed , it will not show up in my computer as a drive…

and someone mentioned seagate in that other post but maxtor have boughht them out so beware !!
