I think cattle tipping is a funny one, but then again I also understand its relevance in the countryside. The 7 day detention period is a real wonder.

There's lots of stuff prior to 1922 which is pretty crazy; its illegal to course a hair unless you kill it afterwards and the suchlike.

There was a newspaper article on this last year in the Irish Times when the government repealed hundreds of old and unusual statutes.

Henry VIII had a law that a pilot of a ship who runs aground in Dublin Bay will be blinded as punishment for their incompetance.

I don't think the unions will stand for that nowadays :D

Yes, it is illegal to operate a flashing amber beacon on an agricultural tractor (and many other vehicles). Tractor dealers usually disconnect them on new tractors for that reason (but the buyers usually reconnect them again).

I can't be sure if this is true or not but I read that in Dublin, it's illegal to beat a carpet before 9AM.

I presume it didn't make it through the House, but see page 3:

    Nuclear Test Ban Bill, 2006

"A person who carries out, or causes the carrying out of, a nuclear explosion in the State shall be guilty of an offence."

Lol, you don't say. Even funnier, they may be dealt with summarily in the District Court!

Penalty for Suicide before 1964 was death by hanging.

Crossing a railway track on a bicycle is illegal whereas you can drive across it legally.

You are still supposed to dismount and walk your bike across at a level crossing.

I'm sure I remember this from somewhere either that or im going crazy! Anyone know if this one is still the law?

Lorries and Buses barred from using the right hand lane of a motorway - an offense that carries penalty points.
This looks like it was blatently cogged from England, where they have 3 lane motorways.

As someone who has witnessed, farmers with tractor trailers and bin lorries take the right lane, and court mayhem, on the M50. I believe hanging is not inappropriate (or enough) for any missuse of the right lane.

Isn't it amazing. You can't take a 50cc bike on the m50, but should a greasy pot bellied horny handed son of grossly over subsidised toil wish to take a horse and cart on the motorway, they can, with impunity.

    hi all.

jesus i had to laugh at this one.

what would be the point of hanging them if
    1. they WANT to die.
    2. if they were already dead.
its kinda a bit pointless lol.
what kind of ppl made these laws
