realistic change of background..

    Hi i have done some good change of background with the photo filter->extract
    function, dup the layer and then remove little inconsistencies but this one here
    is terrible, anyone have good tutorial or advice on doing background change more smoothly ?? in CS2 btw !!

    Here is a very quick mini tutorial! Mods move this to DA&D if needed.
    The problem is that the extract filter is great for high contrast things like hair etc. Here the fire dude is very smooth with soft edges.
    So just use the screen blend mode and duplicate the "screened" layer a few times:

    One layer on its own will look too transparent but duplicating it boosts the non dark tones.
    It works by blending dark tones. Its basically the opposite to multiply.

    After the duplicates I but another duplicate with normal blending under the stack of "screened" layers and added a black layer mask to make it totally invisible. Grab a white or gray brush to paint in where you want blacks.

    Good call, it was good to leave it for awhile in photography tho. Its all the same photoshop at the end of the day!
