Sky - and how they have it all sewn up

I joined Sky last August, availed of the free Sky+ box offer (through a friend).
Anyways, i phoned up on Sept 20th to ditch Sky Sports and Movies, only to be told that my "bill" had already been drawn up (for the Sky World package) and that my account would be hit for the €68.

Ok - that's fair enough i thought - so that means i've got the entire package for another month - bringing me up to the end of October.

I then phoned up last night - to catch them before they draw up the "bill" again. This time i was told that YES they would change my package, BUT, it would take effect immediately - meaning that if i had anything in my Sky Planner from Movies or Sports - then i couldn't watch them.
My account would be credited with the difference (cancellation date to the end of the month).

I hardly think this is very fair. It's obvious that they just try to keep people on the top package by doing this - i'm going to drop the the World Package now anyways (on the 9th) and will get it back again for Christmas.

Anyone else have a similar experience on here??

This EXACT thing happened when I rang up to cancel sky last year. I nearly went ballistic when I rang in the second time being told that it would be immediate.

    Pure corperate robbery.

What is not fair about it? You cancel the sports and movies, so why then would you expect to watch them even if some programmes are still in your planner? And if you want to downgrade your package then of course they will do it immediately. Why wouldn't they?

You are missing the point. The first time he [and myself] rang up Sky, he was told he'd be charged to the end of the month. However, the second time he rang, he was told it would be immediate and he'd only get charged for the days he had it.

Blatant ploy to get just that little bit more out of us.

What's not "fair" about it? Quite simple really.....

I have paid in full for the Sky World Package for October, money has left my account etc....
Now, i phone up before my November bill is drawn up to let them know that i don't want the full package for November..... they tell me that when they make the change - it's immediate, therefore i lose the Sky World Package there and then.

I don't care that they credit my account with the difference - i think it's only fair that i should be able to choose to have it for a month (which i've paid for) and cancel for the next month!

Then give up your subscription completely if you disagree with it. Why do people complain and moan about a service and then continue to pay for it?

They caught me with that as well. basically said 'oh you dont have to ring until the 26th so call us back then'. When I rang on the the 26th they told me 'I missed the cutoff'. It is very sharp practice. I cant get anything else apart from sky so no chance to change.

Opposite for me. I rang to cancel a couple of weeks ago. They told me that I'd just paid my monthly bill and I'd continue receiving Sky until 26th Oct and get a €0.30 refund for some reason. Got a letter a couple of days later confirming it + a couple saying come back.

If you do try and cancel they give you some offers.
Offer one was 10% off over 6 months. When I said no to that I was offered 20% off over 12 months. I thought if I kept going I'd get 100% off forever. :D

Jeez - someone got out on the wrong side of the bed this morning!

I never said that i wanted to cancel it completely - i left NTL for a reason MossyMonk. Why would i cancel my sub when i've only connected last August (see the first post).

I do believe that freedom of speech allows me to air my thoughts, and these forums are for that purpose - so cant see what i've done wrong.

I felt like airing my thoughts too Paddy_Fowler, if that is ok.

    That's just fine Mossy Monk.

Sounds to me that you have a general chip on your shoulder or something - but feel free to start verbal warfare and get people's backs up anytime you wish - free speech is great!

Sure, thanks for the permission Paddy_Fowler.

But believe it or not, this website doesn't run on a policy of free speech. So be careful now.
