    Hi folks,

I'm a developer with two years experience and a 1.1 IT degree.

There is a Java developer role maybe coming up for me, involving stuff like J2EE, servlets, JSP, Swing, JDBC, MySQL, Tomcat etc.

Roughly speaking what should salary expectations be when asked?

I was thinking €40k as a starting point but maybe I'm off.

    Thanks.

Go to London - get on a grad training program. Bank of America, Bloomberg, ABN Amro etc. Lots of money to be made in banking IT departments. Plus, there's a really good Irish buzz over there at the moment - loads of 20-somethings working hard, playing hard. You'd be starting on STG £30-35k over there and you'd be on £50-60k after 2 or three years. If you want responsibility and challenges at an early age, London is the place. TBH, I can't see much of a future working for Microsoft, Intel, Ericsson, HP, et. al.

Just word of precaution, many banks in London have switched or are switching over .NET
