i notice when signing up for sky for the first time on their website that i am only allowed select one type of sky box. i want to get the sky + box but if the standard box is free then i feel i should get this aswell and maybe use it to view fta channels in another room. is it possible for me to sign up to standard sky service and then sign up to sky + in a months time and keep the standard sky box or will they look for it to be returned??

Just go for the standard box install first, and then a week or two after it is installed, just ring up and order sky+. They won't ask you for the standard sky digibox back - that's yours to keep - however, unless you sign up to multiroom on the original sky box, then I think you have to pay an installation charge on top of your sky+ box cost (install is free with multiroom) and they will only run a second feed alongside the one you will have got with your standard box, for where the sky+ box is. They won't hook up or support your original sky digibox anymore without a subscription on it.

    Hope this helps.

so i guess they will visit to install the sky + box? is it not just a case of them posting it with instructions? my fear is they will look for the original box back when they are installing the new sky +.

Generally they will leave the old equipment with you. Don't know if the 12 month rule still applies with respect to the digibox. Other boarders will definitely know. No fear of it being posted as it has to be installed by one of their engineers if you ring them direct.

Yep, they'll need to come out to you again to install the sky+ as they'll need to run a second cable from the dish (as the sky+ box takes two feeds) and they'll also need to change the little box on the end of your dish (the LNB). They won't look for your standard sky box back - it's not much use to them anyway.
