That's very strange you still have that box as they have the whole country nearly upgraded to digital where available. Your channels are gone because Chorus are slowly turning off the analogue. Other parts of the country are missing the Movies.

    not really,

my brother still has the old analog box, limerick too.

he gets it free from what i gather.. no not a chipped box, before everyone jumps to conclusions..

AFAIK chorus gave them free a few year back as a second box to entice people to move to digital... it's still there..

there were talks of it being turned off by xmass... but i've heard that legally it can't be switched off untill 2009...

i hear that the sport or the movie channel stopped transmitting on analog a good while back..

UPC are not legally bound to do anything. They can turn off the whole MMDS if they want or just the Analogue.

Each analogue channel turned off allows 5 to 10 digital channels to be added :)
    /me waves again...

I'd suspect that once the UPC (NTL/Chorus) cable networks like Dublin etc that used unencrypted analogue channels for basic cable reach critical digital mass, they'll start seriously cutting out analogue services.

What's the story in Cork where there was always a set-top-box requirement for analogue ? Have they just done a straight cut-over to Digital i.e. box replacements and then shut down the analogue service ? I'd imagine the situation there is more like the Sky Analogue shut down and cutover to Digital i.e. it'll be a short sharp shock rather than a gradual phase out.

Sky analogue was gradually phased out. It wasn't a case of all channels turning off on the same day.

It wasn't that gradual though. Once Sky Digital went to critical mass sky had analogue wound down within 2 years at most.

UPC, as it actually owns the boxes, will have a lot more control and ability to change things over even more quickly. Sky had to entice customers onto the new platform. UPC can just say : here's your new box..

Hi I ordered the setanta premium pack from NTL a few months ago but I only managed to get 4 of the channels - Setanta Sports 1, Racing UK, Setanta Golf & NASN.

I rang to ask why I didn't get the rest but they said there was a technical issue with the Setanta package with MMDS in Galway. Said they didn't know when it'd be fixed. I still only have those 4 channels anyone else having them problems? If your paying for a service should be getting what they advertise not half of the channels.

    Gary,

NTL/UPC has limited channels on the MMDS service. I ran into this difficulty when I wanted to watch GP2 on Setanta Sports 2 earlier this year. I made a comment on this thread in my region forum.

cheers for that. I complained and said I wouldn't pay the full €15 if I was only getting the 4 channels so they agreed to give me the first month half price but they wouldn't offer me a reduction for the following months so was told to either cancel it or pay full price for 4 channels Rediculous!

If you are only seeing TV3 on every channel or UTV it is because the box has been switched off..
