    Hi guys,

ive been toying with the idea of getting a sniper as my next gun, now i dont want to get into a discussion as to which make is best but something ive been wondering about it the whole area is distance/acuracy vs speed/power. Now i know they are linked by physics etc but my crappy brain has a verry poor knowledge of that stuff. Basically what im wondering is is it possible to upgrade the range of a gun without pushing up the FPS level and breaking the 1J rule? maybe im fecked from the beggining if range and power are inexorably linked together but im hoping they are not somehow :)

HOPUP:p If you have a decent hopup with 328 you should get pretty good range. Or there are rifled barrels but dunno if they work.

All things being equal if you lower the mass of a projectile and apply the same power you will increase the velocity and therefore the range. But things aran't equal so you have to take into account wind as well as graviational pull of the earth. A heavier BB will resist the effect of the wind better then a lighter one but will experience the effect of gravity more.

    tripe post, nice ;)

pardon my ignorance but i thought the purpose of the Hopup was simply to tweak the vertical angle on the BB?

Yes you can, although not by much. If you want an accurate, sub 1j gun you need a long barrel, better hopup and good bb's. <Simple as that. Also a sniper is going to be very quiet, the gspec for sale in the adverts section which is shooting at 290 is insanely quiet with the silencer fitted. If you are getting a sniper I would highly reccomend a g-spec there accurate, quiet and reliable. I've had mine a few months now with not one problem, with not one misfeed.

that pretty much sums it up

Puts a backspin on giving less accuracy but longer range.

eh, maybe im just dumb i would have thought backspin would actually slow down a forward moving object ?

Yes, FPs is reduced but try firing an aeg with no hopup. The spin will cut maybe 10 fps off depending on setting but puts a slight upward force on the bb. Theres a reason all AEGS come with hopup units.

Or there are rifled barrels but dunno if they work.

There are no rifled barrels for standard BBs. It would be extremely difficult to implement rifling with a round projectile like a BB, and in any case this would interfere with the hop-up effect.

You are probably thinking of the Tania-Koba 'twist' barrel. This is NOT a rifled barrel. The purpose of the twist is NOT to impart a spin on the projectile. Instead it creates a vortex of air around the BB preventing it from touching the sides of the barrel. Accuracy is increased because the BB now follows a straighter path down the barrel. In addition, the exit velocity (and range) will be slightly higher.

It slows the BB down but also provides lift, giving a net increase in range.

    More info

Yep, just came upon them a while ago but was unsure of exactly what they did. Thanks for the clarification Dar.

How is your own one fairing for interests sake?

Unfortunately the piston in my mp5 is knackered so I haven't had a chance to use it properly, although from what I've seen it seems very effective. A replacement piston is on the way so I should have a chance to show it off the week after next.

How much did it set you back?

Wasnt there a different type of airsoft ammo back in the early days
that had a special barrel and the BB was nor round/spherical??
Am I just imagining things? Though there was some sort of ones that
never got popular that put a spin on a non round bb.
