Are people influenced by what they see?

In you opinion are the people that watch anime/hentai influenced by what they see, and if so is it in a negative or positive manner?

Since you said anime/hentai, I'm guessing you're asking whether minors can be influenced by watching adult content?

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: It is very likely that they are affected in the short-term to some degree, but the long-term negative effects of any visual media have either been documented to be untrue (see: violence in video games), or needing further testing before any conclusions may be drawn as to how they do/do not harm.
Still, adult content is adult content, so let's have our kids have some innocence, m'kay?


That said, I view anime & hentai, and I'm reasonably well-adjusted (no urgent desires to glomp friends constantly, smack kids on the head as they do in Japan, fall over while accidentally pulling down women's panties, or tentacu-raep schoolgirls)

Well since asking about negative/positibe effects then ofcourse if you watch something, be it anime/hentai or simply a documentary, you will be influenced in some manner.

I certainly have been influenced positively.

Some animes are very good at giving you a bit of an education. Ergo Proxy got me looking into philosophy a bit more. War based animes have some good points to make and some animes go very deep into themes of sanity and the effects of having power.

Everybody is affected by stimuli, in "positive" and "negative" ways (I have to assume you're choosing a particular moral stance for that positive/negative part). This is a total non-question.

obviously people are influencend by what they watch, is that not the whole point of cinema? i have just watched blood diamond and it moved me. at the end of the the film i thought that, at the end of a million year long process of producing a diamond from heat and presure that a couple of lifes is a small price to get one of those rocks on my fiances finger. cold and heartless it may seem, but hey i'm a dickhead so i don't care.

Wrong. It's anime in an adult way. I personally like to call many of my violent anime or ones with a certain presence, Hentai. Porn is porn, no matter what.

Hentai is an art.

Ok, for starters, you can't call someone wrong and then go about giving your "personal interpretation" of what you think hentai is.

Okay, I guess I kind retracted what i said and slapped myself with my own thoughts. But it is not porn. In fact, there is a thread on another forum that I participate in and it is now against the rules to state that Hentai is just Anime Porn as it has been argued many times, and has been classed as an art. Truly, there are some great Hentai out there with superior graphics and amazing story lines. It's basically Anime that is not shy of showing the sexual theme of reality.

Most things in these modern days get very "Oh no, no, no, no" when it comes to sex. Take religion for example. But Hentai (some) is just that much more free. There are, however, Hentai that are solely based on one thing and are generally crap. But that can be said for a lot of things, too.

Art, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary is Skill in doing anything as the result of knowledge and practice. Or, using Princeton's Wordnet: the products of human creativity. There's very little in human endeavour that is not art, so we can set that point aside as moot.

If you don't like the wikipedia definition, I'll cite the AnimeNewsNetwork definition:

I've actually discussed this many times on MANY other forums lasting very long and my opinions HAVE changed. In fact, I do realise MOST Hentai is just DUH porn for fappers, but there are good ones that are not to be so easily classed with that.

Like I said, I've discussed this many times and my opinions are not changing much anymore as I've seen almost every side, which is why I don't have the effort anymore just to explain it again to anyone here. I did read your post, and it doesn't really show me anything new in how people take it differently.

What I will give you is a Hentai that I thought was very good. Now, the sexual scenes are not actually necessary, but with a closer look they do tell you a bit more about the characters' state of minds. Mezzo Forte. You might have seen it, quite famous... made a good while ago too. There are also series like "Wet Summer Days"

Trust me, I'm not running scared from this thread, I really just don't want to discuss the same thing over again. So... I won't be posting in this thread anymore. Maybe I shouldn’t have even started. (sorry)
