OK, so most of us are playing the IPO (didn't want to start another tread with this in the title) on Saturday, what are the most important items to bring to an event like this, i.e.

IPOD with full battery + good head phones
    Cap?
    Sunglasses?
Judging by the numbers, your own scran (what type of foods good/bad)
Judging by the numbers, your own bog roll (a must)
Early tourney exit, Side action money in one pocket
Early side action exit, Bus fare home in the other
Make it to day two, ATM card

I haven't played a live tourney of this magnatude before so I'm sure the more experienced donks will have some good advice.

    Patience

Ability to resist going all-in with AK in first level.

Ability to never look at the average stack number and feel the need to rise above it as quickly as possible.

    Patience

    Luck

    Good luck everyone.

I believe it is an indoors event so you will be safe from the rain and sun.

I will be bringing very little with me. I will buy a bottle of water before it starts, and may bring my ipod in case I have someone on my table that I can't listen to. I will also have a fleece of some description in case the temperature is variable.

There are shops nearby that can be used during breaks for fruit etc, and you would hope the bogs have enough toilet roll.

The most important thing I need to bring is patience.

Yeah,,its not a family day out or anything! I like to have my music for longer tournaments and water is plenty. Maybe a bottle of lucozade and a banana if you need it

More important than patience is to try and get a good nights sleep the night before and give the cards and the beer a miss for that night.

Youre going to have to stay focused for 12+hours so in order for your brain to function properly over a long period, it needs to be well rested.**

** Just because i say if doesnt mean i'm going to do it...just think its the best advice for someone going into their 1st big multi deepstack

Also more important than patience is the ability to notive when situations change. At the start for the first few levels this will be a fairly deepstacked event, but as time goes on it will totally transform somewhere near the last 4 or 5 levels of the day to be a pushfest, so anyone still in then will need to know to expect this if it is your first big event like this.

They are finishing at the money apparantly, so it will be around 100 players for day 2.

I wonder is it going to turn into a 3 day event?

Or are they going to get from 100 - 1 in one day?

Theres no hurry for any players to get down to the last 27..The jackpot can hold 160 i think and i expect there to be around that figure heading back for the 2nd day. The Irish open went from 700+ down to 200 or so after 1 day.
It wont turn into a crapshoot.

This tournie can be played similar to any other deepstack game...as Dom says, theres no real need to be chasing the average stack, or gamble on flips in the early levels as there will be plenty of play.

There'll also be a lot of poor players in the field, so bideing your time and waiting for a profitable situation would be a better way to go than jamming it allin in the 1st level on a coin flip

Apparantly. However, looking at the structure, the plan is to finish day 1 after the 5k/10k level. This means that if there are around 10% of players left on day 2, blinds will be 6k/12k and avg stack 100k, so it wouldn't take to long at that rate. It'll be interesting to see if the structure is tweaked, and how fast people get knocked out. I'd imagine around the 500/1000 mark a lot of people will fall.

I will bring a large fluroescent knapsack (orange maybe, the more noticeable the better), it will be filled mainly with rolled up bits of newspaper. It will create the impression that I am here for the long haul and that I must know what I am doing.

Tony, with all due respect, while this is a decent structure - it WILL DEFINATELY become a crapshoot as day one develops.

I suggest anyone who has an interest in winning this gets their gambling shoes on and works on their coinflipping skills. Assuming 1000 runners; average stack at start of day two will be < 10BBs.

BTW, if you only bring one prop with you - make it a very large bottle of water.

Your BC Game should your A Fail
Your magic suck out bullet proof vest
    IPOD
    Fleece
    Water
    Fresh Fruit
    Red Bull for later stages

On a serious note i think it could take 16+ hours to get it down to a 100 so a good night sleep on Friday is a must although i will probably not take my own advice.

From the players I've seen in larger buy in tournaments lately, the bigger a fish you are the more likely you are to be wearing an iPod, Sunglasses, Hat or all of the above. Same goes for card protectors.

I used to have a card-protector but surprisingly enough poker chips are just as efficient at protecting your cards.

I'd occasionally wear sunglasses but haven't in over a year because they just hinder your sight and you miss things, as can hats. If you're experienced enough you should have learned how not to give away info with your eyes, or use your eyes to throw bad players fake tells.

As for iPods I might have one in a cash game around players I don't particularly want to talk to or in a low buy in tournament, but in a serious one I think there is just so much important info you miss out on by not being able to hear people.
