Computer grinds to a halt when ripping CD's

    Hello,

Slightly puzzling, I have 2 gigs of ram, and a Core Duo 2.4 Ghz. However, whenever I rip CD's using CD-EX eventhing grinds to a halt. I'm gonna have a search on google, but thought I'd ask here. I have quite a few external hard drives - don't know if that matters.

    Any help appreciated,

    Thanks

Probably a DMA problem on the cd drive?

^^^^ That's what it sounds like to me. Go into device manager and then expand your disk controllers and check each one to make sure they're running in DMA mode rather than PIO mode.

before that, try using a different program to burn.

Hmmmm Audio Grabber seems not to kill the computer and does it quicker. Looks like all my praise of CD-ex may have been unfounded.

Unblock Audio Grabber on your firewall, and use the Freedb button to get your music tracks (saves you from having to type them all in).

Why not use Windows Media Player for ripping CD's?

I'm not a fan of windows Media Player, audio grabber worked and the job's done now.
