Yeah, your best bet is probably phone/clothes shops, they would always be looking for seasonal staff.

The call centre in the North Pole probably gets pretty busy as well, i'm sure they'd be looking for extra staff (Ho Ho Ho)

The hours suck, but this job f**king rules!

Worked a 6 day shift, 11pm to 6am. Pay was pretty sweet. Was working out near the Red Cow. They'd have a shuttle bus going from the Luas stop to the An Post sorting office.

Got a nice pile of money from it, and the craic is exceleent.

You could wear a nice red suit and sit in a little house in a shopping centre?

I'd say shops would probably be the easiest places to get a Christmas job in.

I worked on a christmas contract for Argos a few years ago.

The pay isn't bad, staff were treated well, there was a staff discount and I have to say it was one of the best part time jobs I have ever had.(I may have had a lot over the years;)

The one I did, it was 6 nights. It worked out to 37.5 hours. But you must remember: we were only xmas staff, nothing else. Think the pat was about €10.41, not including the night shift bonus, which I think was 12%, or something.

For all nights that 12% doesn't sound much, it means €11.71 in total and I assume you need Leaving Cert standard reading, Geographical knowledge of the country etc to do the sorting. How do An post vet people to sort out the crooked ones who would love to steal the cash etc in the post.........

so to jump on the orignal posters thread, but where would I find out about working for an post over the christmas, those kinda hours would really suit me.

Is that sorting a Dublin thing only, would they be hiring in the south west?

Dunno. Pop into the nearest post office, and ask. It's more of a yay or nay thing. There are two types of jobs going: sorting office, or postman. Postman, the hours are in the early hours of the morning. They can be local based. Otherwise, the sorting office is based out near the Red Cow Roundabout, so if coming in from that direction, you'll be avoiding most of the traffic, and at that hour, there'll be little if any in the way.

Phone shops don't get seasonal staff. Not the chain I used to work in anyway. Takes a while to be trained up, etc.

    Try places like Marks, etc.

Doing the maths it looks like a one hour unpaid lunch break but who needs that at 3.00 to 10.00 pm?
A 10min tea break would do. So it looks like 11.71 per hour is reduced to 9.50 per hour and the 6.25 shift is actually 7.25 hours.............
Knowing how their minds work they probably give enough work out to people to take 7.25 hours especially with the traffic in Dublin.

Of course the information you are referring to is over one year old.

Can you still apply to anpost????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭gussieg

having previously worked for An post at christmas videocoding ie sorting with a machine the post about 4 years ago, i wanted to apply again this year, in a different area.( I moved.)
I asked the post man he did not seem too optimistic about it and quite vague, and having just googled it, all that came up was this thread from august 3 years ago and a page from the An post site saying due to the economic times there was a large number of applications, far more than the positions available. So is that that then for the christmas jobs?
