Wahay ... finally after 7 weeks I a brand sniny new EOS 1D MK III to replace the one that (ahem) developed a fault ...

However ... in a final act of incredible incompetence Canon has managed to screw this up also ... the new camera arrived at Gunns last week without a battery!! ... so they were forced to give me one of their own ... it is also without a neck strap and my hand strap ...

Given that this is a pro camera I can't believe it took so long ... and Canon really don't seem to give a damn ... arrogant toss pots that they are ... I got a replacement for all of 2 days of the 49 total I was without the camera ...

I had far better experiences with Sigma where a lens warranty repair took 1 week and would have been shorter except they asked permission to test the camera with the same camera body as mine at the time ... they really understand the principle of customer care ... and I hear Nikon is even better .. 2 day return for pro cameras or a replacement ...

I'll make no more recommendations for Canon ... from now on you can consider me a closet Nikonian :(

I've heard some pretty bad things regarding Nikon's service, at least as it stands on this side of the pond...

Best of luck with the new one. This kind of service increases my chances of purchasing from Hong Kong as whats the point of buying in Ireland if it takes so long you might as well send it back to where you bought it.

I had a look at the link to the samples of the D3 and they look superb but then again if I was a major corporation selling a camera system I would make sure the samples are the highest quality. I have seen this from every machine manufacturer saying theirs was the fastest and without exception none were...Take everything with a pinch of salt

Glad you finally got it back. Now you'll just have to get out and start using it. Hopefully it won't develop any more faults, and I'm sure you'll be a lot more cautious as to who you allow to borrow the camera. LOL

Sorry to hear that Canon Ireland still dont give a rats ass abot their customers which is a shame considering the amount of gear we tend to have or will have.

Seems they are content on losing people to the other jap crowd at this rate!!!

Main thing is that you now have another new toy to use and get used to and hopefully the "issues" are now rsolved too

There seems to be some ( a lot) of substance to the hype in this case though. I've seen samples from other non company people and they are astounding. I put the links on a D3 thread here the other day.

Probably directly related to the amount of gear that people have, complacency doesn't be long setting in.
