Auto Standby

Couldn't find a thread on this after a quick search.
Has there been a Sky software update recently? Came back from 2 weeks hols to find a few failed recordings due to "power failure". Also noticed the auto-standby kicking in at night now, and the new menu option.

The thing is, while there may well have been a power cut while we were away, we got a failed recording for the same reason over the weekend when there definitely wasn't a power cut.

Is anyone else having trouble with auto standby? And does it really make any difference to power consumption? e.g. does it even stop the hard disk etc.?

I had disabled auto-standby. From what I read, Power consumption of Sky+ box when on is 28watts. This is reduced to 14.5watts in Standby mode. (36watts and 19watts respectively for SkyHD boxes).

In theory, it shouldn't affect timed recordings, but that said, I've the mode disabled, so can't be sure if it's to blame for failures.

Having had a look over at digitalspy.co.uk it seems there are a few problems with the new software version 5.0.3 which has been rolled out to Pace V2 boxes.

Problems with failed recordings and playback/rewind trouble, which I've also seen. Disabling Auto Standby doesn't necessarily resolve the issues.

    Useless eejits...

Ah right. Might explain why it may not affect me, as I've a V3 box.

I'd expect a fix should be rolled out then soon....

Possibly a silly question byte. How do you know what version you have V2/V3...

I've a Shy HD box, recently noticed auto standby working and also recently getting more failed recordings than previously, can't say they're connected but its certainly a coincidence.
