U3 USB Sticks

Hey, I got a USB stick the other day, it's a Sandisk thing with U3 stuff on it... What's the point in this stuff?? (U3 I mean...) Is there anything worthwhile to do with it, or is it just a waste of space on the drive???

Also, it's a pain because it won't work in some of the labs in college, because it allocates 2 disk drives, E: and F: (one is the "U3 System" the other is the actual usb drive) and it can't do that in college, cos the F: is already allocated... It tells me to disconnect the drive to fix this problem, which i obviously can't do...

If I delete all U3 stuff will it still work???
