Saturday mornings, early 90s

Hi! Just a question I have-does anyone remember a children's series that was on RTE on Saturay mornings in the early 90s? The opening sequence consisted of a short cartoon of a man in a Robin Hood costume, complete with peaked green hat, singing to a Fox, and playing old fashioned music on a mandolin. The Fox was circling the man, and listening to the music.

It's annoying me that I can't think of the name of this series. It told old European folk tales, mostly. It might even have been dubbed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I think this was called the Storyteller... some of the stories were quite scary if I recall for a kid!

Really? Thanks very much SDoom! I liked that series alot-they used to do some of the Brother's Grimm tales, didn't they?

It was Storybook International. :) Link to the show here and a free episode.

I used to love that show. As soon as I saw this thread, I just started humming...."I'm a storyteller....my story must be told....."

I associate that show more with 1986/87. Loved it.

Yep Storybook International. Had a conversation with someone about this recently. It was defo around in the mid 80's. Both of us could remember the intro and theme lyrics clear as day but couldn't remember a single one of the featured stories.

I think we both just turned it off as soon as we saw the actors. The only tv that passed the mustard back then had to either be animated or involve explosions and dangerous driving.

There was a story about some dude who had to go seven years without washing or cutting his hair or nails, while walking to a particular destination. Can't remember anything else but that was pretty interesting.

Ah yes my mistake... There was one episod ewhere a guy cheated death, as in literally, the grim reaper. Freaky for a small child!

There'll be guys on boards reading that now thinking "no haircuts or washing for seven years seems reasonable enough , but what sort of torture is this walking you speak of?!?!?!"
