Hey, I am completing a degree in Software Engineering in the IT Carlow, after college I would be interested in teaching Comp Sci in secondary school, but the course isnt listed in the word doc with accepted courses in it. Is that doc the end all and be all? or might they accept it.

Also I would be interested in teaching maths, can any one suggest a masters or post grad, that would allow me to teach maths in secondary school? (I would of course be doing this before the edu post grad)

    Thanks a mill

The bad news first - Computer Science as a subject is a misnomer for the vast majority of second level schools in Ireland. Only a tiny minority actually teach it as a subject - most second level schools only allocate a single class period per week for "computer studies" which today unfortunately means computer applications - or Office applications (Word, PP, Excel etc). Now to be positive - a maths teacher with a computer science qualification could be very attractive to a school looking to develop their overall levels of ICT integration. Schools are currently under pressure to develop their use of ICT - virtually every WSE refers to this area - but often lack the personnel with the appropriate skills - so if I were you this is the area I would consider. Best of luck!

Did you check the teaching council list if your degree is accepted and what subjects are recognised for you to teach? There are some jobs but generally its "with computer science".
    Best of Luck
