What's your golfing progression by age?

Writing a reply to another guy got me thinking about this. I'd be interested to see what other people's experience has been. The "birds n booze" factor seems to have claim a lot of young talent.

14 - beginner with unfounded lofty ambitions (no handicap)
15 - join club after some society golf, barely able to play to (20)
16 - get lessons during winter and learn to putt (16)
17 - work at game, growth spurt to 6ft 2 extends drives and ego, play some GUI boys (8)
18 - break par first time, play Junior & Barton Cup and make first ever cut in munster youths (4)
19 - Shoot 69 in Milltown, otherwise find things tough (3)
20 - play matchplay thing in St Andrews, get hammered (3)
21 - get to 2 scratch matchplay finals and a h'cap semi-final in 2 clubs. lose both finals on 18th (4)
22 - more practice = more mistakes, begin to hit it sideways, play less (6)
23 - 25 (present) play only social golf about 6 times a year with bad and good memories

mental when you look back at it.

Ambition: To be take it up again age 30 and be a strong Junior Cup player but never to take it so seriously again.

although my "progression" won't enlighten anyone :rolleyes:

under 26 - Driver was called a hurley and the golf ball was called a sliotar
26 - (hc = 27) Started playing the game having realized I was never going to make it to Croke Park
26-30 - (hc = 21) Figured out belting the cover off the ball was not necessary on every shot
31 - (hc = 18) Got a couple of very good lessons
32 - (hc = 16) Discovered the necessity for a short game
32+ - (hc = 18) got married, had kids, mortgage the whole works. Clubs resigned to the shed, I hang out in the back garden on weekends with a lob wedge pining for game.

Around age 10 or 11 - given hcap of 36 after shooting 122 in first medal.

I cant remember exactly how i came down, but i got cut to 35 in first season, then down to 21 by the time i was 13. By 15 i was down to 6. Then got down 3 by the time i was 17. That was the lowest i ever got. Between the ages of 20 to 24 you'd be lucky if i played more than 10 times. Only started playing again properly midway through this season. My handicap had lapsed so i had to submit 3 cards this season. Was given 5.0, but have slipped up to 6 now (5.7).

Started at 14, playing off 26.

15 -> Got down to 7
16 -> Playing off 3 and play most the GUI boys competitions
17 -> Got to scratch, play barton shield for 1st time and represent province
18 to 22 -> Still off scratch. Represent club, province (boys & youths level) and Ireland
23 -> Get to +1 handicap
24 to Present -> Make swing changes, go back to scratch. Very determined now to get back to plus figures but its bloody tough!

10 to 16 -> the pitch and putt years
16 -> first hcap, off 26 in junior class
16 -> got down to 9 in junior class
17 -> joined senior class, given a h'cap of 16
18 -> down to 9
19 to 33 -> the wilderness years as I concentrated on football, hcap fluctuated between 10 and 12
34 -> no more football, now off 10, and playing to 7
