Satellite query

I finally succumbed to purchasing a Sat & Receiver (Lidl)... everything has gone well with the installation except one thing...

I can pickup the Astra 19E satellite perfectly, but can't appear to get Astra 2D!

I have a quick query for anyone out there who may be able to help me...

    - Am I right in thinking that if the Dish is pointing ok to the Astra 19E, its just approx 10degrees more to the East for the Astra 2D (i.e. 28.2) and maybe a tweaking of the elevation ?

    - If I am picking up the Astra 19E (I have large trees in garden), surely I should get a signal for Astra 2D as the LOS doesn't really change etc. i.e. trees same height & distance from dish.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance,

    -krid

Yes, 10 deg. to the left (from back of dish) will take you to Astra 2 .Ad just elevation slightly down ward. Looking at front of dish should be nearly vertical.
You could be looking into the trees for astra 2, and missing them on astra 1 , that 10deg is quite a difference really. How tall are the trees and how far back from them are you?

    Thanks Rippy,

The dish is mounted on back wall of det. garage circa 14 feet from ground... trees are approx 20-25 feet away and about 12-15 feet higher than dish

    What d'ya think ?

The elevation is about 22 degrees.
So that might be OK. But tree height is hard to guage

General rule of thumb is dish should be twice the height of the obstacle in distance from that obstacle.
So if the trees are 15ft then you should ideally be about 30 ft from them.
You may be borderline. Try raising dish as high as you can to see if you get a signal.

Sorted it in about 5 mins on Saturday!! happy days. Astra 2 coming in loud & clear....

Have been fiddling about with receiver now... getting to know it somewhat.

Will have a crack at setting up Eurobird 1 later as its not preinstalled on the Silvercrest receiver - only hope the dish can pick up the sig's also !

    Thanks all.
