macbook warranty question.

    hi all,

I recently had the good fortune to win a macbook. I am in the process of selling it as I would have little use for it. The main sticking point in selling it on seems to be the lack of receipt. I have entered the serial no. onto the apple support page and it indicates it was purchased in August this year. Is a receipt absolutely necessary for warranty claims? My understanding of it is that the purchase has been registered properly either through an online or store purchase and that the warranty is active.
I'd like to be able to say to a buyer with 100% confidence that the warranty is valid. Can I say this?
The macbook is still sealed in its box so would not have had any user activation online, like with a dell and windows machine.

As long as the serial number states that it is within warranty then that's what matters (AFAIK, IANAL, etc)

    Thanks WizZard,.
I should have said that I meant "Would the warranty be honoured without a receipt"? Most of what I've found seems to indicate this but buyers are very cagey though

Yes, usually the warranty is honoured without a receipt. A receipt would only be required if, for example, the warranty had to be validated/confirmed (which is unusual).
In case of no receipt I would imagine that the warranty would be honoured as to the sale date. What you should be careful about is if the prize was bought well in advance of the draw. Which could be what people are worried about?

Have no idea, I have it on adverts.ie, the other one being advertised is from the same source and he's getting a lot of abuse about no receipt? Anyway I checked the serial no. and it shows a purchase date of last month.

Maybe they think it's stolen? For any expensive product bought second-hand I'd definitly be looking for a receipt.

But if you can prove you won it, this shouldn't matter.
