I've finished in uCC, and agghh my ID card must have expired when I swiped it on the library RFID reader it displayed a reg light and "negative" beep, so I couldn't get in, how embarassing.

This is the first year this problem has arisen, as the barrier was not there at the start of last year.

Has anyone here registered as an "external reader" with the boole? Is it routine or do you need a really good reason.

I know this doesn't answer your question but someone who works in GMIT once told me that no person can be refused entry to a library in Ireland so if that's true then isn't that barrier illegal?

it looks very straight forward, assuming you're a graduate. They do say that you can't use the library to read during term, though if you can borrow/consult books I imagine you could just sit at a desk without much bother.

that reminds me - must re-register, my card will be useless too.

    I doubt it's policed really...

the barriers are a machine, if your card has expired you cannot physically enter the building!

Here's the membership form for the library.
    http://http://booleweb.ucc.ie/MEMBERSHIP_APPLICATION-Company_files/Membership_Application_Individual.pdf

Doesnt say how much it costs though, and full membership may require an interview.

It does give you borrowing rights though.

The Graduates Association offers a reduced library membership rate of 40 euro, woo hoo!

I worry that its a plot to overcharge the lot of us, but maybe i'm just paranoid.

They can be found here http://www.ucc.ie/en/alumni/gradassoc/library/

    Hope this helps (someone, eventually).

What I meant was that the policy of sitting down at a desk and reading even though you ain't a student anymore is probably not policed.

Just to clear up the confusion!
