I just tried going to the Irish Apple store online and it's down for an update. I know I'm clutching at straws here, but could it be Leopard is finally being released? I know everyone is saying the 7th or 8th, but... ME WANTIE NOW! Oh God I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl on cocain!

Interesting!!! I heard rumours the other day it was being delayed... but... hmmmmm!! Thanks for raising the point morbo!

No problem. Unfortunately, I’m one of those ‘bad luck’ people. Leopard was probably going to be released today, however, now that I have noticed that it might be, it will probably be delayed until late 2016… so, sorry.

The UK store is down, too, as in fact, are all of the European sites! The American site is up, but then again, it's still very early in North America, so I wouldn't expect them to have updated it yet. Hopefully this will be good news for everyone that's been waiting for so damn long for Leopard.

Have been trying to ring the store in glasgow for update on iTouch stocks and no answer...they;ve answered me every day so far.

Out of curiosity (and bear in mind I'm a mac noob) is it work getting Leopard when it's released, or should I wait (in the same way you have to wait 10-15 years for the bugs in Vista to be ironed out) ?

Just got through to the Apple care line. The official word is that they did a site update last week for the European stores that has gone pear-shaped and the sites needed to be taken down and 're-jigged' to get them working again.

According to the pleasant fellow I chatted to, this has nothing to do with Leopard, and also, there will be no hardware update to accompany Leopard when it is released, so the laptops will be the exact same as they are now for at least another 6 months or so. That's a bit of a disappointment.

However, I don't believe him for a second! The US and Japanese stores are working, but all of European stores are down. They are all built on the same platform, and run from the one site, so a bug in Europe would be problematic for the Asian and US stores, too. I think it's because we are the only open market at the moment.

Also, I do feel there will be a hardware update to go with Leopard. There's always a processor upgrade, or more RAM, or a better graphics card to go with the new OS. I think he was just trying to sell me a Laptop there and then.

    The site's back up, FYI

The guy did say that it would be fairly buggy when it was first released, but not nearly as unstable as Vista, and that it will be fixed in a few months. This again backs up my other point from earlier, as he was clearly lying when he said 'fixed in a few months'.

The site is back up. That's actually a disappointment.

Well, the site is up, but running is not the word ... limping would be more appropriate. You can't actually select any of the products. I still live in hope!

Store is down again. Keep those candles burning for Leopard.

Just remembered flying to London Heathrow in September 2006. Got off the plane, and the first thing I say was a giant banner hanging over the baggage claim saying, "LEOPARD, THE FUTURE IS HERE NOW!" You lied to me Apple! It's been a God damned year and a month since I saw that poster. That 'FUTURE' is in the past. I'd be happy with Leopard in the present at this stage.

Would Apple not have Leopard on sale in the US before here, or at the very least, at the same time? So if they're updating the site in preperation for it, we'll still have to wait for them to update the US site. Or am I talking rubbish?

You most certainly are not. However, The US consumer day has yet to begin, and they will wait for the Californians to crawl out of bed before they launch it across the US. That means we could see Leopard being launched online in Ireland at about 4 or 5pm in the evening, to coincide with a US 9am pct launch and in stores the next day. This is all hypothetical of course, but they will do a worldwide launch, and that launch will ensure that they have a full day of selling on the US market, regardless of the timing of the launch on any other markets.

No that makes sense, all markets should get the option to order at the same time. I'd assume that to line up Leopard on the site, all they need do is replace the current promo pages and upload the new shop page so there isn't any massive exercise to undertake.

FAO OP, On the issue of bugs in versions of 10.5, you are likely to get bugs in any version of any software; though earlier versions may be a little more likely to be prone to some issues. You will be offered to download any updated versions of 10.5 once you purchase it so don't worry too much about bugs too much; if you want it and feel the good outweighs the bad, go get it. If not, sit pretty with what you have.

Leopard will not be released today.
Apple's heads are so far up their own arses with this one, there would be more pomp and circumstance than you could shake a stick at.

just like apple and their delayed releases, leopards dont change their spots! Or something like that anyway.

Anyone done an OS upgrade on a mac before? Do you need to (or should you) back up your HD content before doing it?

A backup would a good idea, just in case. A lot of people will recommend that you do a clean install as well but just upgrading the existing installation will work fine too. I'm not really bothered enough about Leopard to go to trouble of a clean install.

Hardly going to release it when they were still seeding to developers yesterday, according to Macrumors........

Dev upgrades are still ongoing so yeah, tend to agree with whiterebel. It was a nice hope though hehe ;)

as whiterebel said, Leopard is due to be released sometime late this month but god knows that could change. They are speeding up their seeds to developers which is normally a sign that release date is near.

Anyone else hear the rumour about the delay?

Why? What are the drawbacks of just upgrading?

Dunno, it's a bit like putting on new clothes without having a shower first, you don't have that fresh feeling about it and it takes away from the whole new experience

    . . . . did I just say that !? Eh . . not that I'd do such a thing you understand !
    :D

ZENER's analogy kinda sums it up. I guess it's just in case any bits of the old system get left behind and cause problems. Although that's more an issue with Windows. I think the main reason mac users do it is so they can get a better feel for how much faster/smoother the new OS is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Yeah agree with Zen and SP. Remnants of the old system and also running some applications built for the previous OS on the new OS can often be an issue, but its rarely a major problem, or at least it has not been for me.

I almost always just go for it! That's becasue I love new toys and gadgets and have no patience esp when I know other people will be playing and having fun!

Uhhmmmmm another one of my "inside rumours" Im afraid. Sometimes they are accurate, sometimes they are not. This one comes from the line though, and not the dev section so... not sure what to make of it myself. Just checking if anyone else had heard...
