iPod: Updating Smart Playlists

Simple enough question about the "smart playlists" on the iPod Classic / iTunes, like Recently Added, Top 25 Played, etc.

Do these only work if I have iTunes setup for automatic syncing? I have 'Manually manage my music and videoes' ticked, and they don't seem to update. (My iPod doesn't have any of those smart playlists listed, only my On The Go ones).

You need to create the smart playlists on teh Ipod itself not on the music library of itunes.

I don't mean ordinary playlists that I make myself.

I mean the things like Top 25 Played. It should be creating and updating that itself I thought?
