Dario Argento's latest - Mother Of Tears

So, Argento finally finishes the trilogy he started with Suspira.

I'm actually a little suprised at this, but the reviews are very positive so far. I think that Dario Argento was a director that was well passed his sell by date, considering the last really good film from him was probably Opera, which is 20 years old at this stage, and he's managed to direct quite a few stinkers since then.

You know, I've been awaiting this film for quite a while, and while I still don't think it's going to be a classic like Profondo Rosso or Suspiria despite the reviews, I am going to be anticipating this greatly.

Well just to piss you off, you might want to know (or be horrifically reminded if you already knew :D ), that they're remaking Suspiro

Also, not sure if it'll change for anyone else who clicks the link, but I like the way there's an ad for High School Musical 2 on the page. :D Actually, I'd like to go on record as saying that the UHM site should be destroyed. Not for having too many ads on it, but for listing all the horrible remakes that we'll have to suffer through over the next few years. Ignorance would indeed be bliss :(

I ditto pretty much everything you said there Karl, but he has done some decent work since Opera (which wasn't near his best imo). Both of his Masters of Horror entries (Jennifer and Pelts) were quite good.
I'm not expecting another Suspiria here, but I do have quite high hopes.

Any idea who's scoring this? Are the Goblins still around?

Italian release at the end of this month. As far as I know, that's the only country with a confirmed release date at the moment.
I'd imagine that either Cineworld or the IFI will show it. They tend to like their semi-obscure foreign films.

I've been aware of the remake for some time now, it was announced years ago. Thankfully, it's been stuck in limbo ever since, much like the proposed Oldboy remake that I hope never sees the light of day.

Remaking the film is one thing though, I'd dread the updated theme. I think that's probably one piece of music that can still put the ****s up me.

Definetly wasn't saying Opera was anywhere near his best, it really does pale in comparison to some of his films, but it was probably the most recent film of his that I considered good. That said, I did think Sleepless had it's moments. Oh and I didn't like Jennifer, and haven't seen Pelts yet.

Claudio Simonetti is scoring it btw, he was the main guy behind Goblin anyway, but I've heard the score was pretty awful.

Why not? They've either remade or are in the process of remaking just about everything else under the sun. It's going to happen sooner or later.

I'm sorry to have to tell you, but the ball is rolling again :(

    5/18/07

This project was seemingly dead after numorous years have passed, but life is blooming in it once agian, with news that an Italian-based production company called First Sun will put out this remake. They were quoted saying the following: "We intend to create a concept that will encompass cinema, video games, fashion and music and that revives the original for those who did not experience it. The Gothic resurgence is very strong around the world at the moment...and we feel that a new version of 'Suspiria' will fit very well." What a waste.

    I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry :(

I love Opera and Phenomena. Two of Argento's underrated gems from the 80's.
