Have a nintendo ds bought in the us a few months back, the battery in completely dead in so far as it cant be recharged. Just wondering if i can replace the battery with one bought here, i think (stand to be corrected) that the battery for both the american and the irish version is 3.7v. Tried world ebay for a replacement but the sellers will only ship to the us. Dont want to end up blowing the bloody thing up. :o

Firstly, forgive my ignorance cos I'm an ould fella, but I'm getting a Nintendo DS from the US for my daughter. Question is, does it come with any transformer etc. to allow mains charging here in Ireland ? if not, is such a charger/transformer possible to buy here (Peats etc. ?) ??

Thanks for any advice you can give me

The US ds comes with a two prong charger. So it won't fit here. You can buy an adapter or just use a European charger. They're compatible.

They sell them on dealextreme for next to nothing. They also sell USB chargers too for about 2 dollars. Handy to have about.

To plug the ds in here you'll need a stepdown convertor as the 220v will fry the US ds power cable & probably the ds.
But a cheaper & far more convenient alternative would be to buy a generic own branded ds power cable from Game, or similar, I think they cost about €14.99.
All power cables on Nintendo consoles & handhelds from America & Japan can be interchanged for an irish equivalent, as the irish cable can handle 220v and the stepdown incorporated in all Nintendo power supply cables downgrades the supply to the requisite level (which is identical for nintendo consoles from all regions).
I've done this for every Nintendo console from N64 to the Wii including both ds models & it's 100% safe.
This is only true for nintendo consoles and handhelds - doing similar with sony or microsoft consoles that come with a standard flex lead will fry the console, as they lack the stepdown incoporated into Nintendo power supply cables.

I'd be very suprised if the ds charger doesn't take 110-220V (it will be written on the charger) . Also its not entirely true to state that about sony consoles anyways, the ps3 power supply(its built into the console, not on the cable) takes 110-220V . Most new electrical items have this feature built in. Just check the transformer (either the plug or the black box half way along the wire) to see if it can. It will be written something like "Input : 110 - 220V"

I have a US DS myself and the charger that came with it will not work over here, it will not take 220V

I bought my charger on dealextreme for $3 or $4 with free delivery. Sorry the site is down at the moment so I can't get you the direct link.

All US consoles require stepdown transformers I have both a PS3 and XBOX 360 and I had to buy a stepdown transformer. The only games unit that doesnt require one is the Sony PSP as they have put a higher range on their power supplies.

    http:www.cpconline.ie

in the search option type in SP2P300 — SUNPOWER — CONVERTER, 300W UK-US they are 30 blips but very reliable and have an auto kill switch to protect against surges also. Delivery is quick also.

As previously stated, a US ds is able to take a European charger. I use one in mine. No step down transformer is required. Unless of course you wish to use the original American charger. Which is pretty pointless when you can buy a UK one from dealextreme for so cheap.

Really? is that the light or th phat? Suprising enough really!
BTW the ps3 doesnt need a step down 100% positive on this, or else my ps3 would be an expensive paper weight!

Yea, if you don't want to go online and want some help just go into any Argos/Gamestop/Game/Smyth's etc. and tell them you're looking for a charger for your DS Lite. Probably easiest to avoid confusion if you're not sure.
