I'm thinking of buying one and would love some info first.

First I want to know if it give your blood alco % or a 'Zero' or 'fail' like the cops use?.

After ten pints I couldn't be arsed with trying to work out my blood/alco % before driving and would rather a simple pass or fail reading.

I assume you are talking about a personal breathaliser?
They work im sure however.. the point is.. not to drink in the first place :D
After 10 pints you WILL fail... after 2 you will probably fail..
Unless you mean the next day.

My friend has one of those and finds it very handy.. If he has been out the night before he just tests himself in the morning so he doesnt need to worry if the guards stop him.

Were there not rumours of some of the car manufacturers looking into building such devices into the car, such that if you don't pass the engine is locked out?

Yes i heard about that recently... Car will not start if you are over the limit. Good idead. Then again, so might limiting all cars to the max speed in a country.. i.e. 120kph here. Not that i want THAT to happen :D

Im responsible enough not to drink when driving.... 1 small glass of wine with dinner (5 hours before) is all i had on Saturday night (wifes birthday party). The rest of the night i was on water/soft drinks.

So these devices are mainly for the morning after... responsible people do not use them the night if their drinking.

But couldn't one just get a sober friend to breath into it??

So the eh "Designated Driver" is pissed... how sober are his friends going to be? :D

Still i suppose you could always quickly switch places with a sober friend if you are pulled over... Make him take the test.

True, if you're letting your "pished dunk maaate" drive you can't be all that sober yourself.

A friend has one, I don't trust it though. "passed" me on two pints + a whiskey over a fairly short period of time; I definitely wouldn't drive on that. It -might- have been right (theres a lot of me for the blood/alcohol % to be in due to being Lurch-like) but still.

You don't need one, you're not a real man if ya can't drive after ten pints!

I just wouldnt trust those that you can buy from tinternet, 12 pints and 2 brandys and it showed me being of a very low blood/alc level???

By the way does anyone know the make of the one that the filth use?

Surprised no pub has ever gotten a joke one of these installed with a free drink for whoever's the most pissed (according to the breathaliser) at the end of the night. Could definitely see some of the peeps I know getting competitive over stuff as silly as that.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere there was a mobile phone in development with a built in breathalyser...

Just get my six year old to blow in, she drives most days anyway (her fingers are to small to pull the rings on my cans and opening cans while driving is just wrong and stupid)

Brilliant idea - after 8 pints it should automatically bar calls/texts to all numbers except taxis and dominos.

All ex-girlfriends / one night stands should be put into a 'high risk category' who are barred after 4 pints....
