Any chance that it will eventually go FTA?? Like I heard rumours for like over a year that channel 4 was to go FTA in 2008 (which it is...) so is there any rumours for 5??

Is that a new frequency? I only ask, as my Technomate box hadn't found it during a NIT scan a few weeks ago.
**EDIT** Just copped that this is a 2C frequency so would be new.

dulpit, I'm open to correction, but I'm pretty sure that five are locked in a contract with Sky until some time next year.

And for the record, five is still FTA as I type.

I was under the impression that the Five channels are available fta with a uk card.

No, five channels are available "Free to View" with the UK "Freesat from Sky" viewing card. Since it needs a card, it's not FTA, but FTV.

Now, during 2C tests, it's FTA, meaning no card is needed.

Whilst still Encrypted I'm getting 95% signal strength and 100% quality readings on this transponder. Best on other transponders is 10% below these figures.

When I tried to tune in channel 5 on astra using my Freesat from Sky card I'm only getting channel 5 and not the 5 US and 5 life channels. Are these on a different frequency?

They should be on the EPG. Are you using a Sky box?

yup, an old sky box with a uk freesat card. Managed to manually find 5 and a few test variants with settings somebody wrote here but not the other two.

Five US and Five Life should be on the EPG then. No need to tune them in.

Sky EPG channels 180 to 183. If you see "No satellite signal..." it's because your Digibox still remembers the old settings. Just reboot it and let it "search for listings".

I've tried rebooting but it still says 'no satellite signal...' the box is acting a bit strange lately too like the remote would not change any of the channels for a few hours then out of the blue it just started to work again plus some of the channels are kind of scrambled I was just wondering if anyone thinks the box might be on the way out? it's 3 years old.

Make and model? (My money's on Thomson - they suffer the same power supply failure as the Grundigs they replaced. You'd need a repair kit).

:o I'm so embarrassed to admit this but we found out why the box was acting strange, I had put the cordless phone and charger next to the box a couple of weeks ago, when we were tightening cables etc.. trying to figure out what was wrong my husband noticed a buzzing sound from the tv speakers and moved the phone to get in for closer inspection the buzzing stopped so we kept the phone away from the box and lo and behold worked perfectly doh!!(still have the scrambling on some of the channels like channel 4 +1 and a couple of E4s but at least the remote works fine now). Still can't get channel five on the EPG or the other channels but I'm sure it'll come sometime.:)

    Aoife9=sweetie?

Anyway, good to see you've one problem sorted.

As for the card issue, it's strange.

Does 105 not exist on your Guide? Or do you just get a banner?
If you get a banner on saying to ring Sky to upgrade to the channel, it should rectify itself if left in the digibox long enough. Ditto for five US and five Life

    Does 104 Chan4 work OK?

Note that you'll not get More4 or E4 with the UK Freesat card.

Hi byte, I'm just plain old Aofie9:) I don't have a uk card I just have the irish sky subscription, are irish customers getting channel 5 too? or is it just people with the uk card? and what is 2c? all I get is no satellite signal where five should be. and I have absolutely nothing at 180-183.(sorry for all the stupid questions I'm an real novice at this):o

If you've just an Irish subscription card, nothing will get you five at the moment as it's no longer free to air (just free to view - need UK card).

You receive Sky from a number of satellites in one cluster, namely Eurobird1, Astra 2A, Astra 2B and Astra 2D all at 28.2°/28.5° East.

Astra 2C is a new satellite (well new to 28.2°E position) and presumably testing was being carried out, with five being the channels tested.
