In reply to a post by DJ Spider in the 'Ch 4' thread. Your Sky+ HDD probably needed a defrag, just as windows based pc's need a defrag from time to time, so do Sky+ boxes. This is what happens when you do a reset on your Sky+ box. Unfortunately it erases the HDD in the process, and there is'nt an easy way of avoiding it. As you watch and then erase a program, it leaves an empty space on the hard drive, which the Sky+ will use for the next recording if there's room, but as the empty spaces get scattered around all over the place a recording and it's index files can become seperated, when this happens the Sky+ cant play back the program. The recording is there but the system just can't find it. Hope this helps.

    Machead.

To "defrag" your harddrive, press Services, 4, 0, 1, Select. This brings you to the Installer menu.

Choose option 7: Sky+ Planner Rebuild. This is the "defrag" system.
    This does not delete programming.

The bottom option (Full System Reset) is the one that basically formats your harddrive, deleting all programming.
