Resigning from Part-time employment

Well as the story goes, I have been working in a spar outlet for the past month and a bit, but man am I bored of it already, also add onto that the crazy times I have decided once I reach 2,000 euro I will quit, which should be in 3 weeks.

The thing is I was given no contract outlining resignation procedure, so I am completely at a loss of what to do. I know in theory I could leave now, seeing as I never signed a contract, but I won't be doing that.

What do you recommend I do? Should I write a letter two weeks in advance to leaving? or just do the usual 4 week in advance?

Should I just explain that while I loved working there(it is ok, it's rather my low tolerance level for boredom which makes me want to leave) something has come up and I will be unavailable to remain working?

There are still minimum requirements even if you don't have a contract. In your situation, you can legally give one weeks notice (more info here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/starting-work-and-changing-job/changing-job/giving_notice)

What's the owner / your manager like? Are they the type who could be ***** if you tell them you want to leave?

It's probably "safest" if you wait and give one weeks notice.

Just ask your manager what the notice period is and then serve it.

Get another job 1st, then when you get it, give in a weeks notice. At this time of the year, however boring, part-time jobs are scarce.

You're working in Spar, not Goldman Sachs.
When I was 19 and working in Roches Stores I had similar concerns when a part-time job was offered to me at the Virgin Megastore (obviously the more appealing). My brother, a solicitor, advised me that there wouldn't be a problem if I just handed in as much notice as possible to Roches (a week). As he predicted, they were ok about it.
I imagine Spar's staff turnover is pretty much daily.

Should I give them a letter now, or even explain to them in words that I will be leaving on a set date, and if they want they can replace me when they see fit or wait until that date?

Just on a side note, any idea of who I would contact about working for the Christmas on Ice thingy? On the website there is an email address which I contacted, but I'm skeptical if that is the way to go.

    I'm not sure I follow.

Are you saying you want to give more than a weeks notice? If you do, go for it, otherwise give them your letter one week before your last day.

You're right there. I've done the Spar part-time thing, and the boredom was a huge factor in me leaving aswell. That, and the hours were fairly un-predictable. From having a full week to being told I wasn't needed for another 3-4 days.
In college now, but looking for some bar-work (handy to have the experience).
