Ad for the Mumps (I think)

    Anyone remember an ad that ran on RTE back in the 70s for the mumps or the measles. All I can remember at this stage is a nurse or a nun at the end going "Ba!.... Ba!" into the ear of a kid who was now deaf. Presumably from the nurse shouting in his ear.

    Hee hee! It was a nun - just to make it that bit more sinister. I've said it before and I'll say it again: nuns are on a par with clowns when it comes to scaring children. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=747SKishQPg :eek: :(

    I either wasn't born when it was being shown, or I'm too young to remember it, but a clip was shown on RTE news a few years later as part of a feature on German measles/rubella (around the mid-80s when there was a huge amount of concern about this illness because it was discovered that having it during pregnancy could result in the baby being born deaf. The MMR - measles, mumps, rubella - vaccine was introduced here around that time). Freaked me out it did. Those public information ads were well affecting - I suppose that was the point. I actually started a thread on that phenomenon a few months ago. The particular ad you brought up is mentioned.

    Ah yes I remember it well. There was a craze for a while in our school where you would sneak up behind someone and shout BA!! as loud as you could in their ear.

    Yeah that ad ran in the late 70's, it became and still is a phrase you use
    when someone does something stupid or picks something up wrong. BA !
    or BA AH like the american Hello !
    Other great catch phrase from old ads

    After Him
    Have you seen Brian ? ( Cut to an uncovered water barrel)
    Where's grandad ? ( Cut to a flowing river)

    And surely a modern day ad that should be added
    Oh Did ye miss the boat ? ( Cut to couple coming down the stairs after shagging each other sensless) dairygold or kerrygold ad with the worst acting ever

    Bloody hell! I thought nobody remembered that AD. When my girlfriend
    goes something stupid or cant hear me I intantly go BA! towards here ear
    probably due to finding that Ad back in the day so funny.
    Would love to see it again. MmmmmmmBA!!! straight into the
    ear drum.

    I loved the el Sicko ads(and still do) where they
    mentioned a child could die in only
    a few cm of water and they cut to an inflatable swimming pool.

    or the electricity ads where the Darren gets fried!
    I adored the Darren...Darren...GzzTTTXZZZ DARRRAANNNNN!!!!
    as he tries to retrieve the Frisbee.
    Later they released a Prequel to that Ad where said Darren was trying
    to start his motorbike and notices the Frisbee stick and goes to investigate.

    I think it was on around the time of Waderly Wagon where Judge the dog
    was made famous by singing the safe cross code. And it later was always
    on when they had 40coats on.

    LOL, I remember the waterbarrel one. I also remember the BA! ad, didn't realise it was that long ago! :O
