Norton Internet Security 2008

I have Norton Internet Security 2006 installed on my laptop. Yesterday a product update said that I could upgrade to NIS 2008, and get virus definitions and all other general updates for it until my existing subscription ran out.

So I clicked proceed, began downloading the stuff needed to install NIS 2008, but much to my dismay, it did not install properly and now NIS 2006 isn't even working. So now I have neither version of Norton. When I try to re-install NIS 2006 I'm told there's an installation error. When I try to install NIS 2008 using the file I downloaded, that doesn't work either.

Any suggestions as to how I can totally wipe my computer clean of anything Norton-related? I've tried Add & Remove Programmes in Control Panel but it says that it's already been uninstalled, even though the icon for it still shows up in the list.

What I want to do is start from scratch and re-install NIS 2006.

    All suggestions appreciated.
