Septic tank vs Waste treatment system

The assessment carried out on the site for our new build concluded that the soil conditions were such that a conventional septic tank discharging to a percolation area would be sufficient to deal with the waste water. This is probably a cheaper option than some of the treatment systems available, however, I am wondering whether I should still go beyond the planning conditions and install a proprietary treatment system while I am at it. Any advice appreciated

I personally dont see the advantage with the newer system being worth it.

I work in the industry and find that there are very few of them sold compared to the septic tank. Save your money towards solar and geothermal heating.

Septic tank system is the best system in suitable conditions.

Other wastewater treatment units can be utilised where conditions are not favorable for a septic tank.

By far a septic tank and percolation area will require the least maintaineance, eg. only desludging required. As opposed to tied-in maintenance contracts with the wastewater treatment units suppliers.

Feel lucky that your site is suitable for a tried and tested septic tank system that requires little looking after.

Some of the wastewater treatment units in sites around the country have very complicated technologhy and if the company that supplied it goes bust or gets out of the market, then who is going to fix it? (this has happened, people left with big juggernaut systems in their back garden that fail and cannot be fixed! after paying out a substantial sum!)

Septic tanks as per Epa standards should cost around €600. Get a full tank, not figure 8 ones that come in 2 halves, as these tend to let water in and pollutant out.
