My 1999 BMW 520 has blown its head gasket and I was wondering if anybody here could tell me how much I can expect to pay to have it repaired? I have been quoted between €1500-€2000  is this right it seems a lot to me.

That what I paid for my E36 yes @ BMW
The new gasket, which is actually the same, they don't replace it, they just fix it, actually costed 57 euro :-(
In my case they also replaced the radiator, the water pump.In total I paid 1800 euro.
The other stuff are just the man work, which is about 70-80% of the final invoice.

You could probably get this replaced for a lot less, but I had nowhere to go back at that time, and I still don't know a good BMW specialist.

    Anyone ?

repairing head, skimming gasket, head kit, hoses, radiator, thermostat housing and 14 hours labour, €2700 at bmw specialist - they had the car for 3 weeks too

    would make baby jesus cry

Thanks for that mick.fr. Was that price from a main dealer because the price I got was from a "back street" guy.

I am based in Celbridge and am gutted at the thoughts of paying out that much but what can you do?

Yes I paid this at BMW Maxwell Blackrock.
They always did a good job on my car.
They kept my car 2 days only.

Id recommend them or Robert Furley.

Any good SIMI garage would be able to do it no problem. You dont need to go to a main dealer and pay thoses prices. Of course a main dealer is going to charge mammoth fee's for that repair but a good garage would do it for half that in my honest opinion.. Bear in mind also it's an 8 year old car aswell..

Not having a go or anything, but can I ask how being SIMI registered has any bearing on a garages ability to do quality work?

It is the fact that the car is 8 years old that is killing me about paying that much money.

Any contact details for AC Cars or Robert Furley and also where are they both based.

    Thanks.

Isn't there a garage on the Newcastle rd. out of Celbridge which claims to be a BMW specialist? The name escapes me now but he's about a mile out on the left hand side before the tennis club.

I have no idea about him or his reputation, maybe Kbannon will know more.
