    Hi,

I'm moving into the GMB next week. (Well I presume so, I've paid the money and I have had a room quoted to me that I confirmed, but I haven't heard anything from the accomodation office in quite a while)

    Few questions:

    1) do I go into the accomodation office on the 3rd and pick up a key? I would prefer to move in during the evening time (less traffic in city centre) but I presume I have to pick up my key during office hours.
    2) The GMB has 'television points'. I presume this means I have to bring my own TV? How many channels will I receive?
    3) Do the kitchens come equipped with kettles/microwaves/toasters/pots or do students provide their own?

    ty,
    Conal

    Conal,

Wasn't in GMB but I'll give it a shot anyway.

    1) Yes - except its a key card, not a key. City centre traffic is grand from 11 - 15.30, after that expect delays.

    2) Basic NTL, you get about 15 or so channels.

    3) It should come with a Kettle, oven, toaster and microwave. There is no cutlery or crockery provided and no cleaning materials.

Once you get in, there is an inventory form. Report ANYTHING that is scratched, damaged, broken etc or else you will get billed for it at the end on the year.

In new square we had a cleaner who came in and did the kitchen floor every couple of days - if you get the same, make friends with her. We got her a box of chocolates after a couple of weeks and our kitchen was spotless (she did the whole place). It makes life much easier!

    Thanks Zaraba,

Basic NTL shouldn't affect my academic performance too much! If there was Sky Digital I would defo have to get rid of the TV from the room after Christmas at the lastest

You get Setanta I think, and Discovery Prime.

Deadliest Catch and the World Cup! What more could you ask for!

Had the same package in a house last year. Deadliest Catch is so addictive. Not quite sure I'm comfortable with a reality show where people die though:eek:

Can't wait. Twas the only program that was watched religiously by every guy in my house last year. Makes me want to be a real man!

Also, if you are the kind of person who is into radio (like me) and is geeky enough to have a radio that has an input for coax (like me), you can connect it to cable too (you have two wall sockets, one TV one radio, both F-type screw-in like all old-school Cablelink setups). This means you get close-to-crystal-clear radio, including the BBC radio stations (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5Live, Ulster, World Service).

The new lobsterman series isn't great - wooo.. I haul tiny pots in flat seas.. woo.. I'm tough..

I find the NTL digital great for that - If I'm working I can put on lyric or classic on the tv..
