Tracing Spyware and AV Back to Source?

Are there ways to trace spyware, malware, and AV back to its source? If so, know of a grand link, book, or magazine article that suggests how you can do this?

I'm pretty sure such a thing isn't possible.

If you are referring to that mailskinner problem of yours, you could probably find the site it was downloaded from in your temp files.

My temp files, history, and other footprints are dumped at logoff.
