He's taking over from Ray D'Arcy for me lately to be honest...

I can understand why some people may find him annoying but I actually like him. I'd actually rate him above any of the other presenters on Today FM at the minute.

    annoying as fnck.
He was on here giving out a load as well, before they banned him.

    lulz

Absolutely - he just is not funny but can't seem to get the message. Today FM should get rid !!!

Him and his 'best mate' are tools,I bet he only has one mate.

I'll be perfectly honest... Ray Foley has restored my faith in Radio.

While we're stuck listening to DJ's on national radio who just play up to the radio, act quite fake and twee and generally have no real chemistry with listeners and people who call in - Ray, JP, Adelle (and racist Uncle Martin) talk about real stuff frankly and they are, in my opinion, very funny.

We need more DJ's like this on national radio.. i know there's people who prefer their Phantom and FM104 but for national radio, he's the best we got.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,770 ✭✭✭shockwave

I think Rick O'Shea is much better,I didnt like him at first but he plays good music and he's really growing on me. Another plus, no annoying sidekicks!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

He isnt the most annoying, I think Fenton and Ray D'arcy are worse, but he's still pretty awful. That crap at lunchtime where all I hear are klaxons every 3 seconds, is childish and almost like circus radio.

    Shockwave

    Rick O'Shea - Awful!

Simply the worst DJ on the radio (excepting Ryan and Darcy of course).

His sickly sweet, oh so confidential, I am talking to as a buddy type voice is driving me insane for many years now.

He keeps appearing in various guises and time slots. He is like a bad penny. He is symptomatic of the dearth of talent on this fair isle.

Foley on the other hand, while not the finished article, at least is making an effort. Definitely the best of his ilk national airwaves.

He borrows alot from Chris Moyles, but at least he's borrowing from a winner...

Now lets have no more negativity on Foley. As far as I can see he is streets ahead.

TBH Ray Foley is the best DJ in Ireland at the moment and i love his show to bits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

Aw how nice, hulingguy's only signed up today and his first post is in praise of a guy who was permanently banned from this site for his behaviour. And his second post is also about Ray Foley, calling him his favourite DJ. How cute.

I've never heard Ray Foley, but he'd have to go a long way to being worse than either Tony Fenton or Rick O'Shea and their annoying mid-Atlantic radio voices. Have they not discovered that it's not the 80s any more?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,692 ✭✭✭Loomis

    Misunderstanding. Nevermind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Remember.... Mr. Foley is a delicate flower, so if you are criticizing the quality of his presenting skills then please try and make it constructive and keep personal abuse to a minimum.

    Thanks....

Well he shouldnt copy so much from Chris Moyles, if he wishes to abate the criticism.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,060 ✭✭✭Anto McC

Nevermind either, see Mr Andersons post.

I've never actually heard his show but he encourages fans to Spam (which automatically puts him into the category of organisms most valued for the nutrients they will eventually return to the ecosystem, as well as being why I banned him from boards) and he has serious issues dealing with criticism that will definitely have to be dealt with if he's ever successful in the field he's trying to work in.

Regarding Ray Foley trying to spin favourable mentions of himself - he and his his team tried to do the same thing over on Jim Carroll's blog on The Irish Times (http://www.ireland.com/blogs/ontherecord) after a piece on him, but Carroll just called their bluff with the IP addresses. Foley and co ran for cover. Very funny - and much funnier than his awful, awful turd of a show

Your definition of cute is slightly absurd.

    LOL

No, I love Ray. He is my favourite Radio DJ. He says what he thinks. He doesn't mean to be funny but he is. He gets a huge thumbs up from me. But he is someone you either love or hate.
I have tried to convert a few people who hate him but it wont work.

He is a well known poster on here

    I've said too much

Think his show is absolutely dire. Come 12 I have to dash over to the radio to switch over, I can normally tolerate anything, but Foley is a bridge too far. It feels like the worst secondary school radio; the team has that infuriating cliquey quality, finding themselves endlessly amusing, constantly guffawing at each other.

I remember having to listen to one show where for 5-10 minutes all he did was read out the headlines on some stories in the newspaper, he didn't comment on them, just read them out.

The constant background music is something that should have died in the 90's as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

I preferred his show when it was on at night, the show seems to have been toned down too much now, to cater for daytime listeners. As for him being the most annoying? Try listening to the ****e that are being called a dj on Live95FM, now that is a station with an annoying dj overdose.

In fairness, no matter what he is like, I don't think he's TRYING to work in radio, the guy has held down a gig on national radio for a few years now.

Like him or loathe him, from someone who works in radio, he's doing a pretty good job if I was asked for my professional opinion.

    What he said ^ :D

They should've kept him on at the night time slot where nobody would listen to him.

Ray Foley is the funniest DJ going, he just does what he likes and doesn't give a crap about the consequences. His musical tastes are odd but Ray himself is so humorous that I can easily overlook such an anomaly.
The Eh Ya OK game at half 1 is so freakin funny (the klaxons really make it what it is) and I love the way he pursues any absolutely mad idea he has - ringing up Cork and Kerry business prior to the All-Ireland, finidng Steve Perry's phone number (Steve Perry was the lead singer with Journey, incase you were wondering), ringing up HB to ask if the Fat Frog ice cream was still on the market.

He's way better than the News At One, anyway

Phoning up HB to ask if Fat Frog icecreams are still for sale..... wow, a rebel without a pause eh?

He has been known to shill his crap around here and then limped off when he was told no one likes him and he's ****. He sends his "fan boys" out to pimp his utterly banal show and given that his listeners have about the same IQ as you or I (and I mean, you know, collectively), they mindless obey.

As for his wild and zany style... he is an enigma embedded in a mystery wrapped in a shellsuit.

    DeV.

That really is cutting edge radio,he must have a big team of producer's behind him to get that 'stunt' off the ground.

I have great fun when im in the car listening to him. I never get bored listening to him. Im sick of Ian Dempsey, do not listen to him any more but Ray foley is excellent. He is not trying to be a serious boring radio DJ, he is trying to entertain listeners.
Thought it was funny when Richard dean anderson (mc'guyver/stargate) had been on the Ray Darcy show and when he was done, Foley had JP run out to the hall and grab him before he left to record him doing various takes of their slogan (just a bit of fun for your lunchtime).

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

I dont care if he skins nuns live on air. I just dont want him arriving here pimping his crap under assumed names. I just did a check and found a number of "fans" coming from the same IP.

I just left a comment for Jim Carroll on his blog to confirm that Foley is trying to pull the same trick here:
"Ray Foley has been sending his minions (or his various personalities) over to Boards.ie. All from the same ip, all spewing the same love-fest for Ray. Seriously man, a box of Kleenex, a mirror and a locked room and you are all set for a night with your loved one…"

If he had any faith in his show he wouldnt feel the need to shill.

    DeV.

Looks like most people agree... he's an annoying, childish d1ckhead and his sidekicks are totally useless... are they there to make him sound good???

MOD EDIT: No threats of violence please...

Or have such trouble accepting criticism.

He has a particular demographic which he is able to work well, but somehow seems to think that everyone should except him as some sort of pop radio genius.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yep. No need for that kind of talk.

It's really just someone trying to earn a living... unfortunately the way they go about doing it annoys a lot of people... but there is still no need for talk like that.

EDIT: I think I'll lock the thread now. There seems to be a need for one of these threads every few months and without fail they end up as a big sticky mess like a fat frog that's been left next to a radiator....

mmmm.... Fat Frog... Do they still do Golly Bars? I used to love them... but I guess they're not PC enough these days.
