Question Marks in Dock

Running OS X server with clients connected, had upgraded clients to 10.4.10 during summer. Now when the clients login to the xserve, the applications come up as questions marks in the dock and cant be launched. Think it has something to do with the client upgrade. Tried recreating client accounts on server, same. Tried deleting dock plist preferences, same. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Do the clients log anything to Console.app on their machines? (longshot)

It is common for applications to appear as question marks in the dock after a profile transfer etc, (happens to me with Xcode all the time) basically some essential files relating to the application are either missing or corrupt and the system cannot recognise the application any longer - in this case, this could be due to the upgrade. Tidiest solution would be to reinstall the application on xserve. If the application has been specifically configured then you might want to consider less drastic actions to repair, largely dependant on the application in question.
