Access to train platform???

A quick question for you intellectual law heads. Here's the scenario:

You need to get to a train platform, but the level-crossing gates are down. The problem is, there is only one main access point to both platforms, and that is on the far side of the level crossing. There is no bridge/tunnel to get across legally. However, you can get to the near-side platform (the one you need) by crossing a gate beside the level-crossing, and not going near the main access point, or crossing the tracks. The only sign on this gate (or anywhere) states that [paraphrasing] "Passengers may only board train with valid ticket, or be prosecuted, fined, etc".

Now, IF you have a valid prepaid ticket, what is the legality of crossing this gate to board your train?

    lol, sorry!

I suppose the question is, is jumping the gate to get to the platform considered trespassing, or something along those lines? Even when you have a valid ticket to get your train?

Edit: Or is there a liability/insurance issue to be considered?

AFAIK, one is obliged to validate their ticket, including season tickets.

Accessing the railway other than via an approved and open route is probably trespass, with a prosecution more likely where one accesses anything other than a station or platform.

Okay, thanks Victor. That's pretty much what I suspect as well, but it is a bit unclear. And it's extremely annoying when Irish Rail don't have proper access on both platforms, or at least a way to cross over to the ticket validation side.
