    Hi

Has the use of tactical radios come up much since HRTA has started. What are people using. Assumbly PMR 446 is the best option to ensure some sort of standard.....

Do the various teams use radios given that PMR 446 sets can be bought fairly cheaply now pretty much everywhere.

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago. If you flick back through the pages of the forum, you should find it. I'll have a look when I get a chance to see if I can't find it (assuming you haven't already).

yes, radios are used, pmr 446 is the only frequency available without licence (that i know of) so everyone uses that

they're handy to have, but for most games, they are not necessary, for bigger games, the type that would last a couple of hours to an entire weekend they would definitely be useful, but when a game only lasts 15-30 mins, you'll spend more time on the radio planning your attack/defense than actually executing it

id definitely recommend buying a headset for one though, nothing worse than hiding and your radio goes off, revealing your position to the enemy you were stalking up on

Don't agree at all you can make great use of them in a 5 min game let alone a 15 or 30 min etc one. The thing is no one put them to good use or listens to what people are saying alot of them time which is whats making them ineffective.

You should see a ARW team doing stuff, there's not a word out load its all over the comms.

Don't bother with throat mikes, get yourself a decent boom mike. Cheaper and people might actually understand what you're saying :).

The cheaper option is the hyt 446 its only 199 and is of great quality. comes with charger. Its got the same connectors as the motorola radios.

Checked and priced in CQ comms in Dublin today

I need the Motorola XTN 446 PMR

I can't just get any Motorola PMR as they come in 3 flavours, 1-pin, 2-pin 7.5mm and 2-pin 9.5mm. The XTN has the correct socket, there is no adapter for motorola 2-pin 7.5mm to 1-pin, only 2-pin 9.5mm to 1-pin. The Calvavy has a 7.5mm 2-pin plug.
