"Frustration"

Whenever anything goes wrong, the team and management constantly refer to their “frustration” as in “Its so frustrating because we know how good we are…….”, “Its frustrating that our lineout didn’t function………”, “The Georgians frustrated us……………….” etc.Usually, the impression is given that the speaker feels and/or knows for certain that he and/or the team could/ should have done better – which is often totally disrespectful to the opposition.

Webster’s Dictionary on the other hand defines the state or an instance of being frustrated as “a deep chronic sense or state of insecurity and dissatisfaction arising from unresolved problems or unfulfilled needs”.

So, if it is a loss on Sunday, then instead of hearing of the team’s frustration (at its failure to put away these upstart Argies) will we hear BOD or EOS say “Well Des, the lads are all feeling chronically insecure, dissatisfied and unfulfilled …at the end of the day”.

That just about sums up Irelands 2007 RWC...............

I'm off to Paris to see the game so I'll be of the 'hope springs eternal' attitude.

    Precisely.

But when players talk of frustration at press conferences, what they really mean is "we believed the hype".

in 1998, we won the WR , 4 years after we where big favorites and we didn't go out of the pols... everybody was frustated, believe me...
and 4 years after we where in final ! (we lost it, i agree , but it prouves that a team can raise again )
good luck and keep on believing !

C'est vrai!! I was only thinking about France recently. In 1982 their first great team with Platini, Giresse, Tresor, Bossis, Six, Rocheteau et al got to the semifinal of the World Cup where they lost on penalties having been 3-1 up in extra time.

Two years later they were European champions.

In 1986 they again got to the World Cup semi finals.

    And then.....

They failed to qualify for three of the next four major tournaments and in the only one they did get to (Euro 92 in Sweden) they didn't win a match.

Then they come back in 98 and win the world cup, following up with the European Championship in 2000.

    We'll be back.

    Tiocfaidh ar la aris!!
