Nah leave the title the way it is. More piratey.....Newslettaaaaaarrrrrrrrr!

Cant wait to see the public/media released document. Perhaps a news bit (like the new zealand one) might be a good thing. Then again if it was handled incorectly (by say....the Irish Sun?) it could go horrably wrong. Whilst it may be a good thing to turn new eople onto the sport with that kind of publicity we could get the "wrong" people....or am i being prejudice? IF THAT IS HOW U SPELL IT!

Yeah thats how you spell it. However you spelled "people" wrong :p

As for it going wrong, nahhhh ... its being designed in such a way as it can been digitally disseminated and any attempts at distorting the truth will be easily countered by pointing to the document and saying "No, we said THIS not THAT - thats bad tabloidy pond life! Bad! No biscuit for you!"

Erm.. seems to be a mistake in page 1, 3rd paragraph, wherein the IAA invites UK players to attend skirmishes in IE and NI. Not being political or whatnot, but last time I checked, NI = UK, no

So shouldn't the paragraph read "The IAA does however invite players from the UK and NI to attend skirmishes in the Republic where they are most welcome" ?

Otherwise, very pro, well written (concise/to the point/points well made) and excellent effort :)

Ambro, I wont get into the several hundred years of violence, bigotry, political correctness and other nonsense that has gone on between the UK, NI and Republic, suffice to say that it is a wording based on geography and the politics of not offending anyone. I can understand how that can be confusing though.

Thanks for the kind words all the same :)

My comment was totally apolitical, and based entirely upon relevance of VCRB (which applies in NI, I believe), is all :)

But well understood (us "New Irish" may not have developed sufficient level of political awareness yet, where NI matters are concerned ;))

Its cool Ambro, I know what you are saying. However, we invite the NI players specifically because the regulations of the VCRA may or may not be brought into force to prevent them travelling with their kit to play with other groups. Should they want to come down from the North to play here it is good for our sport, good for relations and good for the economy when they bring all that lovely sterling with them.

Differentiating between NI and the UK is done because of the political climate, the possibility of a properly devolved government, civil rights beliefs, political alignments, cultural devides etc.

If you want I'll include an invite specifically for English and Welsh players in the next one (the Scottish have a different system and we may actually have to mke a seperate invite) - hell, I'll invite the French, Dutch, Germans, swiss, Spanish and Eskimo's if it gets more players and publicity for the sport :)

Edit: Yes, it is needlessly complicated but thats how the Irish like their politics ;)

Nice Press Release, easy to read and to the point. Looking forward to the next one.

    Thats only the news letter.

I am talking to the other lads in the IAA about switching to a quarterly members magazine made available digitally. Kill two birds with one stone and do bot hteh press release and the newletter in one mag.

It means more work for muggins here but it looks better.

    What do you all think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Yeah that would be quite good. Let me know if you need input from me or if you want anything specific with photos etc.

Very very nice newsletter. Good info on the work being done, addresses the whole membership questions thingy and covers the VCR bill in the UK.

In the most positive light possible, I'd like to offer one tiny suggestion (totally non-critical). There is mention of drafting a letter to the Minister of Sport. I've sent many letters to ministers over the years and met with quite a few. I can honestly say that letters are not very effective. I'd strongly suggest organising a meeting with the minister instead. Compile a hard copy, colour press release with pics & bullet point information, then present it at the meeting.

I haven't met Seamus Brennan TD yet, but he seems like a decent guy.

He was the Minister for Tourism and the Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise and Employment. Both these areas benefit from Airsoft, so he should be quite interested in the sport.

    Thanks Crazy.

Ah, I see. Its not clear from the newsletter but what we mean by a "letter" is a carefully composed document complete with a printed copy and DVD with a massive ammount of information ranging from economics to health & safety to cottage industry and the impact of Airsoft as an international sport. There is a lot going into it and we are happy to get any suggestions at all.

Sorry for the confusion, I didnt mean it to sound like we were going to half-ass it ;)

    Cool.

The DVD thing is a really nice idea. Hopefully the minister will actually watch it.

Oh, and he has 6 kids. Most of whom I believe are teenagers. Might want to invite them to a game. They can then go tell daddy how great it was.

Do we get to take on the bodyguards (suitably equipped with non-RS of course!), then? :D

The bodyguard stands next to them, giving you a mean look while his right hand slowly slips under his jacket to his gun. Just as you raise your AEG to shoot, he says "You've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? "
