I have no idea about the abortion pill but I will give you this advice. Abortion is not something you want to go through on your own. You'll need to talk about this with someone as its a secret too big too keep to yourself for the rest of your life.

You need to talk to a pregnancy counsellor who can explain all your options to you. Check out the Positive Options site, they're a state-funded organisation that offer free non-judgmental crisis pregnancy information around the country.

    Hi

I recently posted on this site. My girlfriend found out she was pregnant. We were terrified, and although we knew our parents would help us, we felt alone with the big decision: to go ahead or not. I don't know if the father is your boyfriend or a fling or what, but there is one thing to remember: WHATEVER decision you make, there are a LOT of people there to help you make it.

They will offer you guidance and unbiased counsel. There is no "judgement" made about you. Their sole purpose is to be there to help you in whatever way possible.

Here are two sites that are very helpful:

    http://www.bpas.org/

    http://www.ifpa.ie

Me and my gf went to IFPA---they are just off O'Connell St in Dublin City Centre---there are nationwide centres and you'll find one easily. An appointment can be arranged over the phone. It is a very comfortable meeting where all the facts are laid on the table.

Please let me know if I can help in any way (I can PM you). You are never alone in this. Hope you're okay.

Having read this : http://www.fwhc.org/abortion/medical-ab.htm and having had an M/C in Feb I would never wish this method on anyone.

Please don't think that you can take a pill and you will just have a heavy period because that is not a certainty at all.

I was 10weeks pregnant when I lost my baby naturally and I had contractions and gave birth to the sac, it was very very distressing. If you are experiencing an unwanted pregnancy the last thing you need to go through is experiencing labour and possibly 'passing' the feotus, above all else it could ruin the experience for you later in life when/if you decide to have children.

If you are pregnant and want to terminate the pregnancy I would see someone for impartial advice on your options. I am sure a D&C (or whatever it's called now a days) would be far less upsetting for you.

above all else look after yourself.

The medical abortion pill is not legal in this county and if you try and import it you can be done for bring in drugs with out a licence.

I would suggest getting in touch with the ifpa asap as there are other options depending on how far along you are.

A big warning to all posters

DO NOT SELF-MEDICATE or TAKE PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION WITHOUT CONSULTING A MEDICAL PRACTITIONER

As above poster said before, the abortion pill is not pleasant - it's not just a heavy period, you are forcing a miscarriage. Abortion is illegal in Ireland - you would need to go aboard, such as the UK, to get the abortion pill, and you can only take it within the first nine weeks of pregnancy.

Please speak with a counseller. If you have just found out your pregnant, you're probably in qutie a bit of shock, and speaking with a counseller can help you gain perspective on the reality of the situation for your circumstances. I have a friend who's a single mom, and it's not the end of the world, but it does make life harder. I also had a friend who had an abortion, and while she understands that it was the best thing to do at the time, she still feels shame and loss over it, and it hurts to this day. I'm not saying if you have an abortion you will feel this way, but it is a possiblity, even if you think all you'd feel is relief.

Never try to source the abortion pill outside of GP care - there have been cases where it's lead to blindness and death. Also, you never know what someone gives you for sure. Please speak to a counseller and / or GP on this issue. Wellwoman have a pregnancy consultation available.

No, you'd have to go to England and pay for a private abortion. The pill is called a medical abortion and it has to be given over several stages by a doctor, it's not something you can obtain and take yourself.

Plus it can only be taken up to 9 weeks of pregnancy, they won't do it a day later so if you're considering it you'd need to act fast.

I think there is a Marie Stopes clinic in town. Obviously they can only consult or whatever but it's a start.
