2 x 10 " bass combo. Worth adding a 15" cabinet?

I have an ashdown Mag 300w 2 x 10" combo. Was just wondering if there'd be much point in adding the 15" cabinet to my setup. It'd give me a much deeper sound would it not, or would it just be a waste of time + money? Would my amp even be powerful enough to run a second speaker? I'm not too clued in to the technical stuff.

Part of me thinks it'd be a good idea, another part of me can't stop thinking of new gear to buy. Part of me thinks it's a stupid idea and a waste of money.

Perhaps the part of you that thinks its a bad idea is your back. Cabs for 15" speakers can weigh a bloody ton. I had one once and I hated lugging it in and out of gigs, especially if there were stairs involved.

What are you using it for? What kind of music?
    Bedroom, pub/club, arenas? :)
If you need to fill up a large club, a 15" will go a long way towards providing more bass. More air pushed, and more of a thumpy sound.
Even if you go direct-to-board for your mix, you need good stage bass as well.

If you're a rock'n'roller, looks are important too. Bass gear should be HUGE! :D
15 years ago I played with a Crate 15" combo on top of a Crate 2x15 cab.
People were astonished by my stack. (Unfortunately, they didn't seem as astonished by my bass playing).

300w is more than enough to power an external, as long as the amp has an output for it and you get a cab with the correct power rating/impedance to match it.

I have the same combo and have often thought of doing the same. While I'd say it would give you a more powerful and deeper tone, my criteria for getting it would be venue size. My 2x10 is ample for the pub gigs my band do.

There's also the problem of lugging it to gigs as Deswalsh refers to above. :(

I'd be using it for practice and gigs in places like Eamon Dorans and hopefully the Sugar Club, Whelans etc. Usual places in Dublin. I don't find the 2 x 10" underpowered, just lacks a little low end. Lacks a little clarity if you try to get too deep. Am upgrading my bass soon, so might see what my new one sounds like through the 2 x 10" combo but it has the same pickups as my current bass so I wouldn't expect too much difference.

I might just see if I can pick up a secondhand one someday for a nice price. Lugging it around would suck (hate carrying my current combo around), but obviously I wouldn't have to bring it with me if I couldn't be arsed carrying it. Could just go with the 2 x 10" alone. I probably will pick one up if I can find one at a decent price. Just to have to use if I want to. Also it would just look cool. Using a stack automatically makes you a better player.
